I don't know if we need a whole new category for it...it isn't like these boards are over-flowing.
We could start a second one...then we wouldn't have to wait so long for files...well I hope; I'd probably get them all on the same day.
We would have to devise, or at least be careful, which file is for which game, and send it to the correct person. And then post our transcripts in the correct thread.

New Category Idea
Fellow Civers, Succession Gamers, and Mark (or current moderator),
Since the Succession Game is going so well, do you think we could get it segregated into a new category?
It seems that there are a lot of people requesting to join the current game in progress. If we had a separate category we would get several succession games going on at once.
Anybody else agree? Post here.

LOL
Great idea Skeeve. Chances are it'll die out soon as Civ3 comes along though, this game has no addictive power. Maybe somehow we could make a League, like the PBEM leagues. Can't think how though.
This game must have one redeeming feature. Mustn't it?

Yeah, I could see where the game files could get mixed up, and even more likely, postings on the wrong thread.
My thought was to get a second game going without the original 10 players, so that the new people wouldn't have to wait until the 2nd game.
Also, if we run only 1 Game, it's going to have about 15 people... I wonder if that's too much. On the other hand, it might actually be fun to do a succession game with a huge number of people. An individual would probably get to play only 2 or 3 times, but he would be contributing to a greater whole.
Just something to ponder in the meantime...

My thinking would be that the new players would like some old hands to help them trough their first attempt ...so they can avoid the troubles we had early on. Though they would be free to ask us for advice. These things have a way of working themselves out...

I reckon a succession game with say 50 people would be awesome, also we should try smaller games like, with say about 4 or 5 people who can discuss between themselves what sort of strategy to adopt. With the big game it would just be a chaotic free for all with everyone using a different technique, intersting .....

BTW, off the topic, how many posts do you need to get off this humiliating settler status?

I can't exactly remember what the number is to increase your rank. But it is in the 30's. You currently have thirty, so one more post might do it!! But I am sure 35 will get you there. Then it takes about 120 to become a warlord. The end of your pain is in sight.....

I guess I had another idea in mind to go along with the separate category.
That was to post the rules for our succession game there, and have it topped so that people can see it above the other threads for easy reference. The "rules" thread could stay open so that ammendments can be made from time to time.
I was thinking about that originally, but forgot to verbalize it.
I guess we could always start a 2nd simultaneous game, see if it crowds up the forum too much and then go from there.

for all it's worth -- I'm for new category. This way players new to succession games (like myself) could go in, read the rules, see some examples, and post their desire to join WITHOUT polluting the actual succession game folder.
hope this helps

Isn't that spamming, and worthy of a 30% post count reduction ?
Oh, and +1 for me

Yeah, technically we're not supposed to post messages for the sole purpose of elevating our status... but hey, it's nice to see someone get excited about it for a change. As long as he doesn't post another 100 messages like that to go up to Warlord, I guess it's okay to let him slide. Then again, it's not up to us is it?
By the way, Vivala, if you want to elevate your post count quickly, go to the Off-Topic forum. It's practically real time, and you can bang out a dozen messages in less than a half hour sometimes. Not that I've done that....

That is all the OT is for anyway
I had some thoughts in my 3 day break from Apolyton.
1) There should be a way of competing in CTP2 multiplayer, rather than just succession games.
2) The CTP PBEM chart, you have to submit your highest score to get "registered".
3) No point of that in CTP2 cos everyone wins flat out on Deity (or so I've heard, I don't even play...)
4) How fast can you win CTP2. There are Civ2 junkies who win the space race with one city, or by conquest on gigantic map before 1AD...
5) How fast can you win a succession game? Faster cos everyone is using different strategies, or slower cos everyone is using different strategies?
6) Why not find out?
So... my suggestion is "CTP2 Doubles" we play succession, with the sole aim to win as fast as possible. No writing out detailed tails of infantry exercises, just win the game. Then we can have a league, like CTP, but in pairs. Highest score league, fastest conquest league, fastest science victory league.
How does that sound? Any other ideas? I wanna reopen the multiplaying forum.
Ben

CTP2 Doubles... Intriquing idea!
I like it. I nominate you as the adminstrator of that one.
If you accept, I'll coordinate with you in running any other succession games.
Sounds like fast and furious fun. (Although I'll probably miss the summaries a bit, but... well you gotta sacrifice something for speed).

Note, that was "how fast can you win" game-time, not real-time, else it'll get silly. Although...
Yeah, I could administrate a bit. Can't wait for the blessed 3-month holiday that will arrive after my exams in June.

I think a one-city challenge or 'same game' challenge would be the easiest to go with for the time being....
We'd just need someone to provide the first save-game file, and then everyone can download it and play the game to see how high they can score or how early they can end the game (depending on what the challenge is).
We could do that for scenarios too...

Was it in the Apolyton pack, that there was a map where all 8 civs only had one city, and enough room for one city? It was really easy to win, because the AI couldn't cope, but it was quite fun. I'll try to do an adaption of it, and you can all see how quickly you can win.

OK, that was quicker than I thought. There's a related thread in the Creation forum about OCC.
If anyone wants to play, post here, and I'll start a Highest Score thread, which everyone can post in once they have won.
Post as follows:
Name - Civ Score - Winning Year - Number of Cities at the end of game
