Help installing new graphics

I don't care for the ToT graphics. They appear fuzzy and dark. I downloaded some files containing some new graphics and got palettes of icons. I have no idea what to do with them. Can someone send me or post some kind of procedure for replacing the ToT unit icons and terrain with the data from one of these palettes, please?
