Help with creating new civ
Hello,
I have never modded this game before. I would really appreciate step-by-step help for creating a new civ to play as. Also, how do I create the list of cities for this new civilization?
As well, will the AIs be able to play as the new civ?
Thanks for your help.

First, open civilisation.txt in ctp_data\default\gamedate. Then copy the entries for one of the existing civs, for example Nicaraguans, and paste it in after the last civ. Next, change NICARAGUANS to something else, for example BELGIANS if you want to add Belgium to your game. Change every instance of NICARAGUAN to BELGIAN except NICARAGUAN_DIPLOMAT_PHOTO.
Now go to ctp_data\english\gamedata and open civ_str.txt. Again copy and paste the Nicaraguan entries and replace every instance of NICARAGUAN with BELGIAN. Next thing to do: change the leader names and city names to Belgian names.
You can add other civs in the same way.

Can't play the civ? Are you playing a scenario, or a user-built map or starting a random game?
For example the Belgians, make sure that this is similar to what you have changed in
civilisation.txt
Belgians #2 <-- if you want to just add a civ.. then make this number the next highest from the one at the bottom of the txt file... and change the number at the top of the file to match the highest number in the txt
{
CIV_LEADER_NAME BELGIAN_LEADERM_NAME
CIV_LEADER_NAME_FEMALE BELGIAN_LEADERF_NAME
CIV_PERSONALITY_MALE "PERSONALITY_CEASAR"
CIV_PERSONALITY_FEMALE "PERSONALITY_TELLER"
CIV_PERSONALITY_DESCRIPTION PERSONALITY_DESCRIPTION_WAR_FEW
CIV_COUNTRY BELGIAN_COUNTRY_NAME
CIV_SINGULAR BELGIAN_SINGULAR
CIV_PLURAL BELGIAN_PLURAL
CIV_EMISSARY_PHOTO BELGIAN_DIPLOMAT_PHOTO
CIV_PARCHMENT 14
CIV_CITY_STYLE 0
CIV_CITY_NAME BELGIAN_CITY_1 CITY_IS_CAPITAL
CIV_CITY_NAME BELGIAN_CITY_2
etc...
and in civ_str.txt
BELGIAN "Belgium"
BELGIAN_LEADERM_NAME "male name goes here"
BELGIAN_LEADERF_NAME "female name goes here"
BELGIAN_COUNTRY_NAME "Belgium"
BELGIAN_SINGULAR "Not Canadian"
BELGIAN_PLURAL "Not Canadians"
BELGIAN_CITY_1 "Your capital"
BELGIAN_CITY_2 "City 2 name"
Other than that and when starting new random game you should have no problems... BTW hows Hamilton today?

Hamilton is buried under piles of snow
Perhaps I shouldn't change the Parchment number. One of the times when it wasn't working, I might have changed it in an effort to correct the game. That might not have been what made the game load, so I will try changing it and running it again.
I did everything the same as as you said, except you didn't mention the Parchment. Hopefully that works, and thanks for your help.

Nah it didn't work. In one other instance I deleted one civ and tried replacing it, but that really screwed up the game.
I don't know what to do, it just doesn't seem to work. I'm playing on a random map, I have everything done properly, it just won't let me play as my new civ

If you have added another civ the at the top of the civilization.txt file change
42 ## Number of Civs in list (add as grows)
to 43. Make sure you have changed the civ's number to 43 as well ( if you copied Nicuragua it will be at 42 at the moment).
