Europa Universalis!!!
I only recently was a diehard CIV II player. No game, I thought, could match its depth and attention to history.
I was wrong.
I've recently become a follower of the game Europa Universalis.
I suggest you check it out at www.europa-universalis.com.
It's only concentrates on three centuries of European history, 1492-1792. But in turn you get incredible depth. Royal marriage alliances, military alliances, vassalage, annexation, colonies, trading posts, technological advancement in four separate fields, realistic economic, diplomatic, military, and domestic issues. All in all and incredible game. I've done it no justice. Check out the website and any review of the game.

Jeje:
I happen to have the manual here at work.
Pentium 200Mhz (P2 300 Mhz recommended)
Windows 95/98/NT/2000 (Service Pack 4)
2 Mb of Video RAM (Supporting 800X600)
64 Mb RAM (128 Mb RAM recommended)
180 free hard drive space
2X CD-ROM drive
Mouse or equivalent input device
DirectX 7.0 or higher (Included with the game)
I bet that mouse requirement through you for a loop, eh?

Jeje:
Had it been most anybody else, I would have typed:
P4 1.3 Ghz
64 Mb Video Ram
512 RAM
15 Gb free disk space
Optical Mouse
3 spare car batteries
Two monitors
Although I have the game just sitting here, I'm trying to finish Baldur's Gate 2 first. Meanwhile, I've watch a lot of the discussions, and it seems that to enjoy EU, you need to really relish thinking about stuff like: "If A takes B then C might join D which might allow me to attack A 'cause C and D hate him, too." Frankly, I'm looking forward to having to work through all that, even if the interface sounds a bit prohibitive and the manual less than helpful.

I have a PII 350, it runs fine, slowdowns aren't too bad, of course a lot of the games I have have bad slowdowns so I might just be used to it.

OK, now I have a problem.
I just found out that the game is in a shop quite near me.
(About 1 hour trip and will cost me ~45USD)
To buy or not to buy?

OK, I bought it.
Spent the weekend playing it and have now mixed feelings about the game.
Part of me is just thrilled over it and the other part is disappointed.
I'll post tomorrow my opinions here, when I have more time.
(But right now I'd say that the game would be worth 30-35 USD)
