Thanks for the train info, folks.
I have a very nice Lionel setup that spans several decades, but no room for it right now.
I guess I just like builders...shooters are good for tension release, but I like to make something (that has fairly unlimited potential outcome) and then tinker with it--seeing the creation from a 1st person view is a cool (and totally essential, IMO) aspect of a builder.
I'll check out the train ones...and keep my fingers crossed for Sigma and Civ3.

I'm sure this has already been mentioned somewhere in this thread, but I'm really looking forward to Empire Earth. I mean it is like a dream come true for people who like the depth of Civ and SMAC, but like the MP value of RTS.

Yes, DOOM3 sounds interesting, like Andy thinks as well. I wonder how this game is coming along; I have heard nothing from it.

No offense, bic, but I can't see an rts actually having a lot of depth.
I mean, there's a limit to how much a player can process at one time, how much he can concentrate on.
with a tbs, there's always room to consider the long distance ramifications of your actions. I doubt there will ever be something comparable to the One City Strategy in an rts.
By that I don't mean that some rts's won't have just one city, but players being able to break the game so completely that an almost absurdity like winning with one city at deity is possible.
that would be something akin to playing AOE2 and holding a tiny part of a random map until you win by building a wonder, concentrating on making lucrative trade routes instead of expansion.
this is a big part of why MOO3 makes me nervous with their "imperial focus" points. they seem to be trying to force a player to limit his view to what it would be in an rts.
(ahem)
Back to what you were saying, bic...
I am looking forward to empire earth, because it sounds like it would give the interesting gameplay of the aoe series in several different time frames. sound like fun!

Lots of interesting RPG's coming up. Arcanum has to be top of my list just because it is produced by a lot of the people who made Fallout 1&2 such good games. The demo certainly gives off the same aura of elaborate plot and character roles even if it was a little unstable. If only the Black Isle games would actually take note of the players race, sex and stats when offering plot information instead of delivering the same stuff to everyone. Playing Arcanum as a Half-Ogre with an IQ of 1 was hilarious! Morrowind also looks like having lots of potential 1 player fun and Neverwinter being the answer to multiplayer D&D now my mates no longer live close enough to make regular friday night pencil and paper sessions possible.
On the TBS front Moo3 and Civ3 both look promising. Monopoly City sounded like a terrific idea back in December but I worry about what changes have had to be made to make the game work since the glowing reviews I read.

I'm looking forward to MOO3 as well. Unfortunately, the other games I'm looking forward to are ones which won't be built:
Master of Magic II, Cavewars II, Galaxy on a PC.

Tack "Morrowind" onto the list for me. I'd thought that the Elder Scrolls series was dead in the water...

DinoDoc, I meant Total Annihilation - Kingdoms (I think) which was a fantasy-theme sequel to the original TA.

I prefer to treat Kingdoms as if it does not exist.
BTW, here's more improvements for TA: http://www.laughingcrowgraphics.com/BSR/

Im really excited about Age of Wonders II, and I think you guys should check it out.
Otherwise Im giddy about MOO3 and Civ3. But I ussually just look at the reviews now and then when I need a game, and if I see something interesting I buy it.

Civ3 and HoMM4, perhaps, though I donīt hold my breath. They might truly lack in the innovation department.

-I can't wait for MoO3;
-surely Civ3;
-MAYBE Star Wars Galaxies;
-I think I'll DIE if they don't announce SMAC(x) 2 in the near future ( i.e. sometimes in Q1 2002, for a 2004 release! )

Industry Tycoon (Giant) 2. Check out http://www.jowood.com/en/?games/ig2/games_ig.html.
And yes! Railroad Tycoon 3 has been officially announced, due towards the end of 2002. No further details so far as I know for now but let's hope we can build tunnels this time.
