A novel experience for me.
Most of my Civ II games, while they don't follow and exact pattern, do have similarities. For instance, as soon as I hit Invention, I go for gunpowder and Len's Workshop.
Well, last night I had some Horsemen off exploring in a trireme, looking for huts. We knocked over one, and here was this bunch of guys wanted to hire them selves out to us.
They were armed with thes long sticks that made a nasty bang and smoke and send this little lead ball off to kill things at a distance.
Well, my guys weren't too happy about the thought of loading these guys with their thundersticks into the same trireme as we were in. so we sent them off exploring.
But a very short time later, I conquered this Luvian city that was a little too close to my territory, and inside I found the secret of gunpowder.
So now, while I'm still researching invention, I'm arming my guys with these thundersticks, and starting to build my trade empire.
Another nasty thing we've seen in our travels is these ships that travel by wind-power, not good old triremes like us decent god-fearing people use.
Looks to be an interesting game.

Cheers Jim, Deja Vu anybody?? do let us know how your troops fare with the thundersticks!! remember what they say about standing on the shoulders of giants!!! apart from it being mighty cold up there, if you didn't spend the time researching something, you have no concept of the hardships and responibilties that come with it!!! so beware!!??!?!
So what do you write in Saskatchewan then Jim? and what do you read? I've got relatives out in Saskatewan too, 2nd and 3rd cousins, they live in Weyburn and Regina respectively!!! anyway just thought i'd tell you!!!

It puts me in mind of a game I played some years ago (when I had considerably less than my current pathetic skills at this game).
Herein, my worthy Crusaders found themselves routed by nasty Mongols cowering inside metal animals that moved without legs or wheels and 'quite literally' crushed my once mighty empire.

shhhh - I suspect the 'benign' influence of he who has been called 'the Merciless'. Step softly lest we poor Brits should attract his attention.

I'm not masquerading as anything?!?! i'm chairman of the brunel squash club!!!! i updated the site last year when i got voted in, but being on work placement this year and not being able to get the coach, club captain or even secretary to learn any basic html it's been left unchanged!!!!!
I have also been voted in again this year, cause we managed to do so well in the league and raise and had a succesful financial year too!!!!!
When i get back to uni, i'll update it and put in some funky java and photos and all sorts of stuff, so there!!!!!

Will wonders (or Wonders) never cease?
I built this workshop, now all my infantry are armed with thundersticks (I guess other people call them muskets. I'd better use that term myself, so as not to be seen as old-fashioned.)
But now I'm building these ships that travel without oars _or_ sails! I'm not sure if these sorts of things should be allowed or not. I mean, if triremes were good enough for my Old Man (snicker)...
However, I greatly fear I am going to have to put aside my guise of peace-loving statesman.
About every two turns or so, bunches of knights or the like are coming out of a previously explored corner and hurling themselves against this fortification that I siezed some time ago. I am going to have to find out where they're coming from, and put a stop to it.
Gee, this is just about as much fun as writing one of my novels. (No, they haven't been published. Yet.)
Am I getting too far off-topic? Well, it has been generally strategy, hasn't it?
Jim W.

Now, if I were to throw all my skill and ability into MP, I can just see the post:
