In the year 2750BC, a mighty ruler by the name of David succeeds to the throne (actually a wooden seat but never mind) of the Australian people. A cannabalistic party is thrown to celebrate.

2725BC: Still hungover from the party, David hears news that Haile Selassie 1 of the Ethiopians has begun work on the Chichen Itza. Shrugging off the news, he lets off a mighty belch and hides his head under the pillow.

2700BC: Cleanup operation begins. Half eaten human bodies are hastily fed to the dogs. They don't half make a smell.

2675BC: Idoiana of the Indonesians begins work on the Chichen Itza. The secret of bronze working is discovered, so Australian scientists are ordered to begin work on the art of writing. David changes Snorf's build queue to Phalanx (for dealing with pesky barbarians) followed by a settler.

2650BC: David discovers that it's possible to bite one's own toenails. Much uproar in Australia as people start biting off their overgrown toenails.

2625BC: David marries his thirteenth wife. Villagers hear strange noises in the night. They attribute it to "the Gods".

2600BC: Australian warriors continue exploring the continent. *sigh*

2575BC: Aargh! has its granary rushbought and a phalanx is then queued for construction.

2570BC: A new farm is built near Snorf. Santa Anna of the Mexicans begins construction of Ramayana.

2525BC: Warriors are confronted by a barbarian warrior unit.

2500BC: Warriors are killed by the barbarians. However, Snorf should have adequate defenses to deal with the barbarians.

Infatuated with the rock and roll lifestyle of a polygamous, canabalistic warrior, David steps down from the wooden chair and disappears with his thirteen wives. Villagers report strange noises coming from the mountains for years afterward....

No problem redstar....appreciate the work you've put in...

The reign of Phoenixcager I

In the year 2500 B.C. Phoenixcager ascended the throne of the mighty Australian people.

The celebrations continued for a hundred years even as barbarians stood watch at the borders of the city of Snorf. They were in awe of the incredible party sense the new ruler brought and wondered if they too might learn the ways of their civilised cousins...

In the year 2400 B. C. Aaagh! commissions its first hoplite unit. The citizens breathe easy, knowing that this will be helpful in keeping the babrian menace at bay.

Phoenixcager looks over the empire and realises that there is no sense in creating more work for himself, so he sticks with the policies of his predecessor and decrees that his reign will be one long party

In 2375 B.C. some travellers bring news that the Incans are nearing completion of something called the Ramayan. Phoenixcager is not flustered, believing that anything with such a weird sounding name cannot be of much use to the might Australian people....

The party continues....

In 2300 B.C., our travelling friends again return with the news that the Incan city of Cuzco has built this so-called Ramayana....news that falls again on deaf ears.

In 2275 B.C., Phoenixcager realises that nothing much has been done during his reign, so he scrambles to round up the brave people Snorf to form a band of settlers that will set out into the unknown and expand the borders of Australia. They finally are ready to move out in 2250 B.C.

That same year, the excessive partying finally takes its toll on Phoenixcager, and he dies after falling from the balcony after having one too many drinks.....

Good job keeping our civilization alive - weekend Apolytons.

I tried to post a message this weekend, but my internet provider was behaving like it was 300 baud! So I gave up.

Anyway, regarding turns that prove too tough and require a reload: Again, I'll say that this is up to the individual ruler. You could declare that you tried your best and it's game over...(subject of course to the No Confidence Vote) OR you could reload your saved file and keep trying until something different happens.

If you are totally unable to avoid catastrophe... well, then you may as well write a creative summary and call it quits. If you get a No Confidence Vote, sure someone else may try it, but he may run into the same problem. I'd say after two No Confidence vote situations, if the third guy can't resolve it, then it's pretty much Game Over.

I hope that helps.. and I'll also add that it should be noted that no one knows for sure if Darkknight actually reloaded - he could have just written a creative "dream sequence" into his story.

- Skeeve

Edit: Alright; after I re-read his post, I'll admit that it's about as likely as Pigs Flying - but still we have no proof. So my judgment on Darkknight is: NOT GILLCUP! (Monty Python fans will get it).

In the year 2250 the previous leader had fled fearing for his life due to the growing barb presense. With no one willing to take over the role as king because they believe our war with the barbarians is hopeless. With no one willing to take command a passing mercinary decides he will try to rule these people. With that the great warrior bob takes command. (these people are almost as cowardly as the irish were in my game )

2250 as his first action, he decides to rid our empire of the evil barb presense. with that he personally leads an expedition of a warrior to eradicate these weaklings. also with the need to expand the empire bob orders the settlers to move to the east and settle on a fertile penensula.

2225 the barb ambush our great leaders army while they were sleeping. fortunately the not so great warrior bob escapes to warn snorf of its armys defeat. The defenders of snorf with rush out leaving the captal defensless and crush those pesky barbarians.

2200 our hoplit joins with settlers to act as an escort.

2125 a hoplit unit is commisioned in snorf. once again our city is defended.

2100 our escort hoplit spots a warrior garison to the west of snorf.

2050 A great city is founded on the western coast. To honor our great leader it is named Iratland. Writing is discovered, drama undertaken. hopefully we will get monarchy by my next turn. but as of now our science is lagging severaly. Our hoplit attacks the barbarinans and destroys them.

2025 Hoplit buit in Snorf, settler undertaken to further expand our borders. Recieve word that Santa Anna nearly has completed pyramids.

2000 turn passed to Jackazzstudent.

we are in rough shape, but better than when i took over. no barb are in sight and now we have three cities.

In the year 2000 BCE the leader of the Australians, Jackazzdespot takes the reigns as supreme master of everything BORING.

2000BCE A hoplite and settler is put in the queue for the city of Iratland

nothing happens
nothing happens
nothing happens
nothing happens

1950 A farm is plowed next to Iratland

nothing happens

1850 BCE Stirred from a deep sleep, Jackazzdespot realizes that something amazing has occurred! A new settler has been built in AAAGH!

1825 BCE the action never ceases! A hoplite has been built in Iratland. It was fortified, while the previous garrisson was sent to escort the settler leaving AAAGH!
nothing happens

1750 Jackazzdespot dies realizing that he wasn't really a Jackazz or much of a despot either.

In other words, nothing happened! No barbarians, no messages from other civs, not SH!^

Have fun

yes, with the possible exception of Barbarian hordes, BOREDOM seems to be the main feature of any rule over our Australian people.

Ha! Boredom wasn't a feature of Snorf's early days!
We had fishing contests! We had Dragging-women-by-the-hair contests! We trained warriors...who promptly killed each other in Mock combat... but life was active! Of course, our fishing rods were more like clubs, but oh well.

Hey, by the way, with the new settler I guess we can go up to 4 cities now?

I wonder how many each AI civ has...

"I wonder how many each AI civ has..."

I suspect this can be answered in a word...MORE.

I also suspect their cities are larger at the moment also

Unless they have sacrificed expansion for wonders...unlikely...cheating AI

Since we are playing on an Island planet (?), their expansion shouldn't be limitless.

Sean.

at the end of my turn we were in last by a good margin, and we were about 1/4 the strongest ones power.

they might not be that far ahead because economy (while usless, whats 10% gold when your making 7 in a city?) which gives a huge graph advantage. many times in games(early) i have had huge leads in # of city's and size of them and been far behind in the graph. because, i build very few buildings until they are usefull, which is mid way through game.

this brings me to the biggest fault in the game. not the ai, but the buildings beeing so useless. It results in forcing the player to conquer and expand as an only option. makes the game very onesided.

Sorry to take so long, I was on a trip.

This is the transcript of the reign of Jonny I, leader of the Australians.

1725 BC - Jonny I comes to power in this year. He intiates the THIEC (Two Hoplites In Every City) plan. Then he goes to a party.

1700 BC - More parties and moving units.

1675 BC - New settler is built in Snorf.

1650 BC - THIEC plan is complete.

1625-1575 BC - Still partying strong! (Just unit moving.)

1550 BC - City of Jonnyopolis is built in this year.

1525 BC - Snorf builds shrine; new farms are begun.

1500 BC - After over 200 years of partying, Jonny goes to the mountains near Snorf, never to be seen again.

Hello everybody! I guess we need to invoke the 72 hour rule now. But I guess it wouldn't hurt to send an email to remind the next player (who is that?) one more time. If that fails, then the last person to post should send it over to the next.

Thanks,

Sorry to take so long guys, I've had to re-install the bloody game.

1500 BC: Rooboy I, the first real Aussie, takes control of the Australian people. Changes public works to 50%, to hasten the building of farms. Sick of the stupidity of Snorf, Rooboy I decides to live in Aratland.

1475-1325: Rooboy I is extremely bored, as are the Australian people. They dream of finding other civilizations to defeat on the sporting field.

1300 Rooville is founded to celebrate 200 years of leadership of Rooboy.

1275 Hoplite is sent out to search ruins west of Jonnyopolis.

1250 Rooboy I dies in his sleep.

To quote Big Kev, "I'm excited!"

My 10 turns
After the long and uneventful reign of rooboy, came the long and equally uneventful reign of Pilfur....

1250 BCE
Farms had been established all throughout the realm, and planters were ready to resume other activities. They were put to work on the very farms that they established. (Public works reduced, farmer specialists created - there were no tile improvements to build, nor much to produce in the cities. The growth should do us some good).

1225
The farmers toiled away. Pilfur decided to produce a new band of warrior explorers to discover the unknown area to the southwest.

1200 - 1100 Nothing happened

1075
The explorers reached the ruins and were immediately ambushed by barbarians. Valiantly, the explorers did away with them and took their skulls as trophies.

1050
Settlers were built in Snorf. They head north to establish a town on the northern coast between Snorf and Aaargh!

1025
Pilfur retired due to boredom... handing the reigns of power to anybody willing to take them.

The boredom continues

Nevermind. We better concentrate on building up a great infrastruture because we are bound to be way behind some of the AI civs. I'm not too worried about the boredom...I fear if an AI found us now we would be toast.

We could certainly do with an increase in technology, thats for sure. Not to mention units that can better withstand the "onslaught" of puny barbarians.

Maybe we should not play the Barbars in the next game...they are damn annoying.

Sean.

If you think its boring now, why get rid of the barbs? They are the only thing to do (kill) at the moment.

I understand your point Wombat, and it is a good one. But I also consider that we would be far more developed than we are know without the interference of Barbarians. This advancement would give us more things to do. More infrastructure to build, units able to explore in relative safety, so we are not endlessly building warriors ( ).

But as I say, your point is also valid. Maybe it is a case of six of one, and half a dozen of the other.

As the overiding theme of nothing continues I am proud to report my reign as contiuing in the spirit of nothingness.

Reign: from whenever th other guy finished until 10 turns later.

What happened: killed one of those mongrel barbarian warriors who keeps popping up in the foothills to the south of the capital.

New City: on the north coast, Young N.S.W. is a tribute to my hometown in south eastern NSW, we needed an actual town from Australia since we are the Australians although its hard to tell with all the surrounding cities, who calls a city after themselves besides Stalin and Lenin and uhhh .... Washington? .....

Production: is starting to pick up, most cities have court houses and shrines now.

Science: We discovered trade and are now researching the one that comes after with the little start above it for the goal of monarchy although i would prefer a republic which is far superios and doesn't take that much longer to discover.

Thats it from me, back to cramming for my eco exam .....
