animated units?
Just a quick question to anyone out there who might know something,
Are the unit graphic/icons going to be sprites that walk around like they did in Test of Time?
I know they show them animated on the civ3 site, but is that just for special orders or will they be animated all the time ? it was kindof cool to start but soon got annoying in ToT.
also, if they are animated, will the mod community be able to edit them or replace them with customized graphics?
one more thing, will the terrain and cities also be animated?

i don't know the answer to your question, but i their animations more annoying than anything else. i doubt it will detract from my experience, but it won't help them either.
i also hope they don't go to too much effor with things like the wonder movies, i always turn those silly things off any way.

The knight, for example, is quite hard to miss when he's galloping around the map. I personally never have any problems seeing my units on the map when I'm playing, but then there is a world of difference between a screenshot and a game with motion and sound.

Oh no... a question not answered by Dan.
Now lets see, why would they not add that ability?
Can't find any reason...I hope they haven't either.

Unit animations?! What a horror.
In my mind i see hundreds of lategame units moving around incredible slowly and with annoying sounds. Every turn takes about two hours, just waiting for all this wonderful animations to end. What a nightmare!
If animations are not possible to switch off then I promise i will never ever ever buy this game no matter how good it is in all other areas.

You're not reading the scriptures with the necessary attention: You will be able to turn them off. You'll also be able to design your own 2D units. Imagine, if that wasn't the case, MODpack and Scenario people would have raised havoc. My computer won't handle three of those guys GALLOPING (oh god! )at the same time, so turning off the luxuries is my only hope. I'll even have to turn off the map animations. Perhaps I'll never see the animated leader graphics either ... SIGH...

Please oh please make all animations able to be turned off! I'm already worried that my computer won't be able to run the game. It seriously slows down when playing CTP2 in the later eras once all empires have too many units.

unit animation are great and must have in any game in the year 2001!!
imo they give me the feeling that i dont play on some boring board game, moving game pieces like checkers or chess, but playing as a ruler of dynamic living world!!!.
i like to see more animation of the landscape, units, cities, its gives me satisfaction to see all the animation, explosions, boat's sailing on the see, whale coming up for air, its so beutifull!!!!!!!!
dont forget that 95 percent are not hardcore civ players like u guys, and graphics mean much to them - and i didnt upgraed my system to p4 just to play in some boring board game, so if u dont like animation, just turn them off, or whatever!!!
