So what made you suggest using SOC1 then? i assumed you'd seen the map from playing it and thought it was a good one for a speed conquest? but, i don't mind myself!!! i can post either SOC1 or a random one i did...

Oldman - I suggested it because it was advertised as having a great start position, with four specials and lots of rivers. I'm two hours into a game on that map, and am doing well but not spectacularly. By the way, Adam Smith told me that he thinks he had the restart civ flag turned on. This would make it different than the usual fast conquest setup.

It's good to know about the restart civs flag!!!! i'll have to note where the civs are, restart a game using the map from the soc1 scenario, change the flag, put on the civs, and bobs your aunites long lost cousins uncles sisters cat!!! on problemo!!

On the SOC1 game I specified seven civs, but only got six, presumably because there wasnt enough room. Is there likely to be enough room for a civ to restart even if it wanted to?

I had that problem with the bcb1 map, that i did originally. But i just tried again and got 7 the next time!!! i guess you put the civs starts on manually, and didn't let the computer do it? i don't know if that would make any difference, but i'll have a fiddle and see what happens, otherwise i'll just post the random one i have as backup!!

Maybe you got a bad download? Try to download it again and see if it works this time. I downloaded the soc14000.sav for the Space Osyssey Challenge and it loaded just fine.

Okay, I'm intrigued, plus I REALLY need to learn how to wage war! So, I'm assuming that once I start, there is no turning back; a restart would be foul because the AI positions and map would not change (correct?).

The final question: is this to be played with MPG or the original Civ II? I ask because of the hostile AI in MPG, although for a "blood-lust campaign maybe that doesn't matter. I've downloaded the bcb1.zip file and will report back soon...(I hope!)

Ah well, a war monger I ain't! I quit keeping a log at 440 AD and bailed at 1160 AD. I may either continue or restart just for the education. I think that maybe I waited too long to start attacking. I may have more power than I realize. I did manage to get Sun and chiv in BC so I do have strong knights.

probably won't help but I had to change .sav to .scn and place in the scenarios folder to get it to work.

Then again I have no idea what I'm doing
