Uberkrux, Geocities/Yahoo! no longer exports pics to any page other than your own at Geocities. So, if you want to post pics here, upload them to another host that does, like Homestead.

I don't think that whales and fish count as the sort of special resources that need colonies to activate. They just produce more food/shields/trade than regular ocean squares like before. The basic land resources like wheat, fur etc should be the same.

Even if you aren't on Geocities, you can right click the links and select "save target as" and still view the pictures off of your desktop. I can't really see the fish at all, but the whale, what kind of resource would it be? A luxury? Also a fishin trawler, like a seaborne colony would be anice feature to take advantage of distant sea resources, it would also increase the effectiveness of navies.

You had the ability to gather resources at sea in SMAC. Wonder if there will be special resources at sea in CivIII, or if the whale and fish will just do what they used to: increase food, trade and shields.

I wonder if this link will fix some problems
http://web.planet.nl/game/foto/e3_2001/civ32-gr.jpg
If not, surf to planet.nl, go to Game and enter E3_2001:Simsalabim
Here you find a nice screenshot.

Considering "whales" name in extended meaning, they where a source of Amber, Oil and others parts I can't remember how to translate in english
This rate "whales" as good candidate booth for luxury as for production bonus.
In another thread I also suggest that every "special resources" on map can be traded.
This way you can also trade food with others civ: it will be a difficult choice between your empire use of food (to grow fast) and the added money you can get selling food to a civ streaked by famine

It did work for me but the pictures are a bit flurry.
Try my link mentioned above!!
You´ll see a whale in the lower right corner on the port side of a vessel.
