I have a whole mess of computers ranging from an old 486DX-33 to a box I'm building with twin Athlon MP 1.4GHz, which, (un)fortunately will not be a game machine since it will run a *nix variant.

I think I'll just stick Civ 3 on my W98 box that has an old K6-3 (nobody remembers them anymore ).

Pardon me, wich S.O. do you use to take advantage from a dual PIII?

I'm afraid I doubt Firaxis will build any Civ III version able to spread tasks to more than a CPU
That's OS (Operating System). You have a choice of Windoze NT 4, 2000, or *nix (Linux, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, and Solaris). NT 4 doesn't run games too well, though it could handle SMAC, and I don't think Firaxis is writing for the *nix crowd.
