news on fog of war?
Just wondering if anyone has any news on the "fog of war" concept as it relates to the Civ 3 map?
I know that civ 2 had a "nongraphical" fog of war, being that you just didn't see what went on if your units or cities weren't right next to the event, but the map looked the same regardless.
I think that the darkened 'fog of war' zones are a good idea so you can tell what areas you don't have direct surveillance over. Plus it makes the map look cooler.
Are there going to be any extra features that make use of the 'fog of war', or is it basically the same as Civ 2, just a graphics change?
(I'd like to see an option to station or hide a diplo/spy in an enemy city so you can see everything that goes on in that city's radius, until they find & expel your diplo/spy).

Not in the screenshots, perhaps; in the video at 1:05 you can see fog of war (darkened area, but the terrain is visible).

This would be a good option in civ.

I like the spy idea. CTP2 had one like it but you had to keep your diplo outside their capital had only had a chance of seeing the whole of their map.
How many times have I said that " CTP2 had something like that " god if they only used those ideas well we'd already have a civ3

Yes, the spy idea is really great. And presumably if it was a veteran spy, he/she would have a better chance of remaining undetected for longer. As well as just observing, how about doing some sabotage from time to time -- which would of course increase the risk of detection, but might be worth it?

Civ2 has a partial FOW that hides other civs' units and city size, but silly enough to show barbarian activities and tile improvements(you can see 'new' irrigation and roadbuilding when it is supposed to be in the dark).
I hope that Firaxis will not make the FOW as incomplete as in civ2.
