firaxis question re rules.txt file
hi htere, got a question for firaxis.
In civ 2 a lot of customisation took place in the rules.txt file, this was very handy as it was text driven
however when palying Multipalyer, there was no way of checking the host hadnt altered his rules.txt file to his advantage.
Are you planning on including the same process in civ3 ?? If so as part of the sign on for MP games will the software check all users for the same rules, txt file ??
A very old simple game Duke Nukem 3d did this so it cant be impossible, escepially with modern whizzes of programmers you hav eworking there...

Just make all players play after the rules of the host.
Of course any changes from your own rules should be informed about.

you obviosuly dont play MP !! this is how the game works. it works of hosts settings, but there is no way of the toher players knowing what the host has altered !!! Therefore you need to have a system that simply checks each players rules.txt file to make sure they the same, you cant trust all players to let you know, just ask Eyes of night !!!

That is what I want changed. The players should compare their rules with the host and the game should present everything that is different from the rules on your machine. It is as simple as checking that everyone has the same version, without requiring everyone to have the same version.

providing that in the end each player is aware of the changes you are right, jsut cant leave it upto the trust of the host!!!!
Would like to see some response from firaxis on this, but i guess they too busy fixing all the single palyer issues to trouble themselves with a MP question
