I know you proberly need to know about civ-specific units and other things before voting, however what civilization looks the best so far?

Egyptians. Always Egyptians. Or Vikings, English or Carthaginians. Never played any of the others.
What's the Egyptian special unit? The mummy?

As far as we know it's got to be the germans.
Having superior tanks in the modern era is a great advantage.
I'd play Greeks too but I'm pissed at the portrait of Alexander the Great. It's wrong. He should have long hair not short. This was one of his very well known characteristics. And he looks desperately constipated in the pics. This is not awe - inspiring. It's sad.

But if you play as the Greek you probably won't see Alexander's portrait. Fool!
I agree that he doesn't look very *great* in the pic. He looks more like some bizarre puppet.

I don't want to be represented by a constipated guy. It will make the other civs nervous.

Do you really believe the German panzers can outwit the U.S. Abrams?...give me a break.
For one thing, I happen to speak a bit of german, and the word "panzer" means armor, or tank, so I think that when they refere to the name, Panzer, they are talking more about the King Tiger Tank, or the Panther...anyway.
According to history, the German "Panzers" had approximately 3 inches of armor, and an 88mm gun...
and the modern U.S. Abrams has about 6-8 inches of armor, and
has a gun of 105mm, and don't forget that awesome M60 machine gun it carries on its turret, so as you can see, the panzer tanks are no match for us americans.
sorry to get off the subject, I would say we can't vote for any civs since we know almost nothing about them.

The America M-1 has a 120 mm gun with no, I repeat No machine gun unless you attach one on top of the turret (50 cal.) Ref: M-1 tank crewman sunday June 17, 2001 Travis AFB Open House. All early M-1 have been upgraded to M-1A2 status.
I play at the American most of the time, However I have played every Civs in Civ 1 and 2

Diablo,
It's sad that you have suffered to learn this, err, interesting things that are competely useless in civ
Your patriotism is touchy but also irelevant
According with the facts on hand, the germans will have a tank as their special unit. By plain civ logic a special tank is better than a regular tank.
Panzer might mean armor but Alexander had long hair. I'm sorry for you if you can't understand immediately the wisdom of my words.
The thing is that Firaxis are not historians and are thus not obliged to be historically accurate. The germans will get a special tank. That's what matters.

That's just one of the misspelled names from the nordic mytology, how about Odin, Thor, Loki...
By the way I really dont think that the vikings are worthy of a spot among the " golden" 16.

I think the other names are the actual ones from the Icelandic dialect (though spelt Odín, Ðor, etc.) that is the main source of non-runestone knowledge of the old norse language.

"Doesn't everyone want to play the civ that represents their nationality?"
Sometimes . . . but it's really not that important to me.
Take the Americans out for all I care. I rarely pick them anyway. It's my own civ, not the American (or whoever) civ.
Some people take this nationalistic/pride/ego thing a bit too far, whining to death because their nationality isn't in the game. A few months ago, someone even mentioned that they wouldn't buy the game if their country wasn't in it. For crying out loud . . .

I always liked to play Yorkshire in my games as a custom civ. Maybe I will again, but I couldn't imagine what custom units I could make. Whippet Legion or Flatcap Brigade? Who knows

Maybe I'm pedantic, but Knut/Canute is NOT a name from Nordic mythology. Knut was king of Denmark and most of England (the Danelaw) 1016-1035. If you don't like the spelling of his name, there are many other kings to choose from (e.g. Harald Hardråde).
In my opinion, the Vikings are much more worthy of a spot among the golden 16 than the Zulus, Iroqouis and Germans.

Now you're getting unreasonable. The Vikings were significant in world history for something like four hundred years. I'll agree that as simple individual civilizations, the Vikings had more impact than the Zulus or Iroquois (but not the Germans; the Germanic tribes placed the northern limit on expansion by the Roman Empire and the Germanic nations of Austria and Prussia figured significantly in every major European conflict from the Middle Ages onward). First off, I see the Zulus and the Iroquois as representatives of their regions. North American civilization as a whole had more impact than the Vikings did individually. This is equally (if not more) true of central and southern Africa. Also, the Firaxis team is taking what I believe to be a balanced approach in which civs to include. Civilization is about replaying history, and just because Europe dominated modern history in this Universe doesn't mean that it was fated to be so. Europe is represented by approximately half the civilizations in the new game even without the Vikings (England, Spain, France, Rome, Greece, Germany and Russia are almost certainly in, and I include the U.S. as European), and I believe this is sufficient to represent the major importance of Europe as a region. Asia gets China, India, Persia or Babylon (not both) and almost certainly Japan. Africa gets Egypt and the Zulus. Central and South America get the Aztecs. North America gets the Iroquois. 8-4-2-1-1; sort of mathematical, isn't it?

I guess it all depends on what you mean by "Germans". I don't agree that "Germans"="Germanic tribes". If this was true, both the English and the Vikings would be German, because they are Germanic peoples.

Somewhat...but the English are offshoots; there is a difference between a civilization which has some of its roots in Germany and a people which has inhabited Germany for millennia. There has always been a strong, independent (though not necessarily united) civilization in Central Europe, and we can label this power "Germany" for lack of a better word.
