Some "The Mars Project" Screenshots
I am getting done with "The Mars Project" for the first terrain set out a few (not sure how many yet). Since every time you research different terraforming technologies, the terrain1.gif, terrain2.gif, and rules.txt file changes, I need different files for each one, so it will take a while.
These are screenshots of in-game terrain for the start of the game with no terraforming.
And I finally changed the grass resource graphic.

I am not a fan of Sci-Fi scenarios, but I am a fan of good work. The screenshots look very good.

Looking good!
But why use a zoom level other than 100% for the shots?

Polaris, it's looking great. The colour scheme and appearence of the land look very martian.
BTW, what program do you use to take screenshots?

Looks terrific! With one exception. In the second view at the bottom, there is a standard civ iron mountain. Hope you're going fix that.
So, when will the release date be? Or are you going to keep that a secret like Firaxis?

Thanks guys.
Case, no program. Just hit "Print Screen" and the screen is copied onto your clipboard. Then you paste it into a normal paint program.
JMarks, I tried my best to keep resources out of the screenshots as I haven't made graphics for them, but you caught me!
I'll be Firaxis for the time being.

This is an introduction to the terrains of the first part of the game.
The "soil" terrain replaces the grassland terrain. Also used in the Mars scenario that comes with Fantastic Worlds.
The "canyon" terrain replaces the desert terrain. Also used int he Mars scenario that comes with Fantastic Worlds.
The "lowlands" terrain replaces the plains terrain. Graphic is drawn by myself.
The "permafrost" or "permafrost field" terrain replaces the swamp terrain. Graphic is drawn by myself.
The "volcanic plains" terrain replaces the jungle terrain. Graphic is drawn by myself.
The "mars dust" terrain replaces the glacier terrain. Graphic drawn by myself.
The "resource ditch" terrain replaces the grass resource terrain. Graphic drawn by myself.

The terrain2.gif graphics for part one and then an added preview of another terrain graphic for the genetic engineered fungi plants. All graphics are modified by myself from other originals. The mountains and hills are taken from Test Of Time and modified to fit the Martian landscape (I just went through them and colorized them). The genetic engineered fungi graphics are just cut off trees. I'll probably make them more creative. The rivers are just colorized rivers from the original game that I colored in. I will probably modify these to look more like canals, as that is what they replaces the rivers until another part in the game where rainfall is beginning to happen and the canals fill up to form rivers.
The reason I say part one is because as the game goes on, the terrain changes along with the rules.txt files to change the statistics of the terrain. This involves many terrain graphics and rules.txt changes during the game that the player will have to do manually unless I can find someone skilled enough to make one of those weird files that sort of unzips the parts for you to play. It is a very difficult process because I have to keep everything the same except for one small thing in the rules.txt file, and thus there are a lot of them. That is why I'm working to make things more simplistic and make multiple terrains pop up per part and every time you terraform and discover new technologies to change the Martian land and atmosphere.
Anyway, as you can see it is very hard to explain, it will be hard to do, and it's taking me a while. However, I'm enjoying it. Making this scenario has been fun so far and I hope that more fun awaits.
Yet more eye candy here as well. I've taken full screenshots. The first one below is the full view of the world map. I'm giving URL links because they are large, full screenshots of an entire screen. Enjoy!

And remember, folks. I might change any of the terrains. Actually, I'm quite content with all of them except the rivers/canals and the hills. The rivers/canals do not look like canals as much as they look like gray rivers, and I see a bit of green in the hills I'd rather not have there.
And Mercator, those screenshots I just posted links to are at 100%/standard view. I finally changed it.

One problem....
I like the look of it so far except, I can only see the pictures in the original post! I can't even get the big screen shots links above, they take me to angelcities/abcbad.all, all of them!
Unfortunatly, instead of making me frustrated and upset, it makes me want the scenario even more. AGH!
Oh, and when the canals fill up, don't revert right away to regular river terrain. Rather, make them water filled canals, then, after another change with those in place, make them more river like. Just a suggestion.

I'm gone from today to July 2 or so, folks.
I have all the terraforming stages set up. It makes about nine or ten terrain1.gif files, 4 or 5 terrain2.gif files, and nine or ten rules.txt files. I haven't calculated other files yet.
All the terrain is made up, except for the last set where Mars will look like Earth except for a few different features (hey, it's Mars ). That set will be more difficult to make, as I want to make my own terrain like the other sets, and not just terrain taken from Civilization II or other scenarios.
See you all on July 2.
