Back to the Future?
In the June 11, 2001 issue of TIME (Asia edition) Civ III gets a mention in a sidebar reviewing several games from E3. The reporter, Chris Taylor, writes:
HIGHLY CIVILIZED It's been five years since legendary gamemaker Sid Meier released Civilization II, the greatest computer strategy game of all time. Until now. Civilization III, released late last year (my bold), takes history simulation to the next level. You manage not only your fledgling society's military and economy over 4,000 years but its trade and culture too, matching wits against such computer opponents as Chairman Mao and Abraham Lincoln. Better clear the decks: this one could swallow a few hundred weekends.
There's a screenshot of the city view included in the sidebar. Was he thinking of CTP II when he said, "released late last year?" And why "over 4,000 years?" Isn't Civ III going to cover about 6,000 like before?

I don't think Time give a dam about Civ 3 and the story was probably a filler in their magazine.

That would suck. What would even be worse is if for some weird reason Firaxis all of sudden just decided to bring the game off the market. Noooooooooooooooo, we won't ever be able to play it!!!!!!!!!!!
