Where the heck is the next update?
Well its been about a month and a half since E3, the E3 previews stopped a full month ago, where the hecks the next official update?
And where are the answers to the most unknown quantity in the game, how the combat system will work. Sure there's been an announcement or two, but beyond just knowing that its getting changed, there's been little real solid info on it. How about another tutorial (ala the resources tutorial last time)
Where is the answer to my own pet peeve of a question... where's Elvis? I saw him in Vegas this past weekend, did he finish his voice work for the game already? Where's he been in the recent screenshots
Where are the modern-day screenshots? Aside from the very old Baltimore screenshot, there haven't been any screenshots after railroads have been discovered, thats more then half of the actual gameplay in Civ (at least in my games) Most of the early game is just setup for the the industrial and modern eras yet, where are the screenshots for that period?
Alright, enough ranting, some people might think this thread is spam, I don't, I think its just a whining request for more info from Firaxis

I want to see the list of the civs in the game. I'm still hoping.

Updates come out about once every 2 months. The next update shouldn't be released until July 11th or so.

Yes, this is true but where is the "ask the civ team" update? That usually comes out every month.

I just went over to Firaxis and look.
1/8/2001
2/21/2001
5/11/2001
However Dan M. and some other visited our site a lot during March, April, and May. For the last mo. nothing. I have said many times don't be so neg. Maybe now it will be no info until game release. So that some of the people here will not tear the game apart before it is release. A lot of people will not buy the game if they .hear it may not be any good. Remember what this site did for CTP 2. They only sold around 30,000 copies. That means that a lot of people depend on us before they will buy.

There are a lot of reasons they may be holding back from posting here or updating their site. They may be deep in playtesting and tweaking so no information would be reliable, or perhaps the E3 reception led them to do a major rethink about how they can recapture the reviewers imagination etc etc
If potential buyers of CtP2 had read the stuff on here immediately after release then they would have bought. It took a few weeks for the mood to shift as the flaws became better known. I don't think it was until Activision announced that they were not prepared to patch the game that the mood turned really hostile. CtP2 was just one of those games that failed despite mostly positive early reviews.

These dates are for the game update section only. There are also the Gallery and the 'ask the team' sections. From January on we had a almost monthly update. That is... until now...

If you average those dates out, the next one should be 12/6/01...

It will be a gesture of good will if somebody of the CIV III team, could at least say that the next update will still take some weeks or that they do not know when it will be posted. It will be useful to know, so I do not check the CIV III website several times a day, because every time is a deception not to see new stuff.

I usually just wait for apolyton to post saying that there is a new update or ask the civ team. Alhough I come to Apolyton very often now looking for one of those posts.

TechWins, it's pretty evident that by 12/6/01, Alex meant June 12 2001. mm/dd/yy doesn't even make that much sense.

Well really, this proves that the way Firaxis treats its fans is not very good. Make a comparison to Blizzard, every week they give some small info about a hero or an animation or something similar, not much but it means alot to the fans. How hard would it be for Firaxis to do the same thing?

The little blurb earlier this year by Firaxis on Diplomacy was worth more than all of the crap that Blizzard has put out/announced/previewed.

Yeah sure but that was not my point, my point is that even small things like this make a difference. And how hard could it be to just release some animations or concept art?

Man, I've been on the same rant for 3 years now. Trust me. Firaxis has its secret "Method," you know? Basically it looks like:
1. We, Firaxis, assume you will buy our game regardless of how well we inform, treat or support you. In fact, if you have problems with the game, we'll likely say it's YOUR fault.
2. We, Firaxis, play our games so they are fun for US. Any problems? Please see #1.
Now, you might think I'm being a bit harsh, but that is Firaxis in a nutshell, and I predict one day they'll need to seriously rethink a few things...say after a particular game doesn't sell well. THEN you'll see the Blizzard type stuff. Or not. Nobody says Firaxis has to be around forever or anything.
Fortunately for them, the Gettysburg line and SMAC sold well (though I personally thought SMAC was a flop). However, that was back in the days when they were sharing telephone lines with their next door neighbors (read: Low, low overhead). Now with a much larger staff (and rent), it might occur to them just how many MORE copies they'll have to sell to enjoy that same profit margin.
