I've had some serious comuter problems. I'm even getting fatal error messages when I boot...
And even when I was able to get past start up, every time I loaded Civ... it crashed again.
This sucks!

yeah, your capital was in a real precarious position. there could have been lots of fun there. No cities or nomads from huts, but everything else seemed to go my way. It was a lot of fun though.

Lucky I had city walls and lots of units to defend inside.
It was a lot of fun
I even got to chat on the ICQ phone with Barono while we played.

Yes, ICQ phone really adds to the enjoyment of the game. Makes the turns seem a lot faster.
Yea, every time I go back and play 1x, it takes awhile to get used to it again.
Walls were meant to come down.
A couple of wonders in your capital is tough to ignore. Once I get a city that close, it's just a matter of time. Lots of places to launch from. Especially when I have a tech lead.
The Ferrets multiplied well that game.
But you never know

You were def the closest competition for both but I had a good lead on cities and pop, but you were pretty close tech wise (I think I had 4 or 5 more than you did). Hydey was benefitting with the GL. Barono lost his second settler to barbs from a hut and we know how bad that cramps early expansion unless you get an early nomad or city from a hut. (i got neither also). After teasing him for doing that, I did it too but I got 50 gold and used it to get out on the board faster. I normally won't do that but I started on the northeast coast of the world and was afraid i would get pinned in if I didn't expand fast enough.
I was really starting to encroach on Hydey and the steamroller was getting ready to roll. I killed quite a few of his cities within a couple of turns that he settled them. And you know how unsettling it is for me to have a city close to your capital.

Ecthelion, sorry to hear that. The best person to test it with is Barono. For some reason, he seems to have the golden touch.

Well War4ever... the problem is my cd/dvd drive. We are going to open the machine up tonight to see if it's just a bad connection, or whether the spiders have gotten to it
So I have no clue if I'll be ready for a Tuesday night game or not.
I'm bummed.

Hehe, I think I actually moved my capital that time, didnt' I? If I didn't, I should have, both because of you and the fact that it was on the edge of my civ. I think you also plopped a couple of units on the gold that was within the city square. Just when I was finishing a couple of cannons, you were able to get musketeers there.
You built Sun Tzu and Leo's, if I recall correctly. Will you always do that if given the opportunity? I have never been able to decide whether it's worth it to get upgrades at the expense of losing vet status. Of course, there's something to be said for building Leo's preemptively if you already have Sun Tzu. GL and Leo's would have been a good combo for Hydey if he could have gotten it.
You are still a pain in the ass neighbor.

Yes you did move it that one time. I'm sure the steady parade of vet spies trashing every city improvement every turn had nothing to do with it. I do remember that you kept about 10 defenders there to keep me honest. And to defend Mic's.
I don't mind building leo's after the war academy. The lose of vet status is annoying, but when old phal are upgraded to muskets and you have 15 shields in the city, you can disband the upgraded muskets and build a vet in one turn. And with any type of barb activity, you get vets fast enough. If a barb is moving on a city with multiple defenders, I will move the vet unit out of the city to let a non vet be attacked.
And you're right, sometimes I just build it so no one else can.
RAH
What are neighbors for. It is a war game damnit.
And there's always the Matt strat of starting all you warriors towards your enemy to have them upgrade to muskets a couple of turns before they get there. That one always was annoying. But thank god for vet cats.

War4ever... that does work out alright then. While the problem will be solved (one way or another) by this weekend, it probably won't get fixed by tonight.
And while I will be playing golf on Sunday... I can still play. It just means I won't be able to stay up until 5am like last time
