Fave SMAC quote?
Another of my infamous 'Favourite' threads
C'mon everyone, what's your favourite SMAC/X quote? I quite like one that I don't believe is actually used for any tech/facility:
"We are all aware that the senses can be deceived, the eyes fooled, but how can we be sure our senses are not being deceived at any particular time, or even all the time? Might I just be a brain in a tank somewhere, tricked all my life into believing in the events of this world by some insane computer? And does my life gain or lose meaning based on my reaction to such solecism?"
- Project Pyrrho,
Specimen 46,
Vat 7
Activity recorded Mission Year 2302, 22467
Termination of specimen advised.

Yeah, I like that quote too, it makes you wonder
Check this one out:
Some would ask, how could a perfect God create a universe filled
with so much that is evil. They have missed a greater conundrum:
why would a perfect God create a universe at all?

By the way SMAC Fanatic, you hear your favourite quote when you build the Bioenhancement Centre.

Mine would have to be this:
Deidre asks me for an amount of energy credits, and I choose the option for lesser credits.
Then she goes: "Be warned! credits, or else!"
Then I reply: "Shrivel and die, you Nature Loony!"

Vel,
The base in question is Assassins' Redoubt.
My favorite is the cadance that you hear upon building a Network node. I like cadances for some odd reason. Never was in the military, and I'm not a jogger.....go figure.
I don't know but I've been told,
Deirdre's got a Network Node.

So that's why I've never heard it - I always build the Cyborg Factory as soon as I can...
Another good few:

I just find the Self-Aware Colony SP's blurb AND Self-Aware Machines blurbs eerie:

The Academician's private residences shall remain off-limits to
the Genetic Inspectors. We possess no retroviral capability,
we are not researching retroviral engineering, and we shall not

You get it when you get retroviral engineering.
As the Americans learned so painfully in Earth's final century,
free flow of information is the only safeguard against tyranny.
The once-chained people whose leaders at last lose their grip on
information flow will soon burst with freedom and vitality, but
the free nation gradually constricting its grip on public discourse
has begun its rapid slide into despotism. Beware of he who would
deny you access to information, for in his heart he dreams himself
your master.

It is every citizen's final duty to go into the tanks and
become one with all the people.

The whispering voice for that Bozon Pete quote always creeps me out (that's what happens when you always play late at night). The HSA quote and Assassin's Redoubt are my favorites
I think it's for Nanominiaturization where smug ol' Morgan says: "Forget what your coutesans have told you, size does matter." That one really provides an insight into his decadent faction.
Lal's quote about "I loved my chosen" is creepy in the context of the cloning vats. No wonder he's so erratic.

I like the quote for the Homo Superior tech.
"Companions the creator seeks, not corpses, not herds and believers. Fellow creators the creator seeks--those who write new values on new tablets. Companions the creator seeks, and fellow harvesters; for everything about him is ripe for the harvest.

I like Yang's quotes, since they let us into his deep and obscure mind, and since they let us know he is more than just a mindless commie thug.
However, I love Dee's quotes, which almost always deal with the hard ecological realities or strange sentient potential of Planet. These give me an insight into what Planet is, and why it works. Of these quotes here is my favorite:
Sentient Econometrics
The fungus has been Planet's dominant lifeform since about the time of the Lower Paleozoic on Earth. But when, once every hundred million years or so, the neural net at last achieves the critical mass necessary to become sentient, the final metamorphosis kills off most of the other life on the planet. It is possible that we humans can help to break this tragic cycle.
-- Lady Deirdre Skye,
"Planet Dreams"
With these few sentences I see an ancient planet (the Lower Paleozoic, for those who are not up on your geologic time scale, was 500 million or more years ago) with an interlinked sentience that operates in cycles of 100 MY. By inference this means the Progenitor's experiment of Manifold 6 may have been operating longer than there has been life on Earth.
Wow.

Did you notice that the Spartan Barracks weenies messed up their portion of the cadance? Instead of repeating the leader they sing out with "I don't know what I've been told".

I don't get to see the Weather Paradigm vid very often (I usually play on TimeWarp), but I do love the Gaian Acolyte's Prayer that plays in the background.
And yes, the Spartan weenies DO appear to have gotten it wrong. No surprise there then...
