Release Date?
Don't know if this is new information for anyone or not...
Was browsing the strategy games at Electronics Boutique and they show Civ 3 with a 10/16/2001 ship date and a price of $49.99. Here is the link:
Electronics Boutique
My apologies if this is news only to me

A number of release dates have been mentioned, all of them within the last quarter of this year. But do not count on this one as an exact release date has not yet been announced by Firaxis. My guess is that we'll have it by christmas.

I have read in various magazines and websites dates ranging from August to November.
but Firaxis hasn't said, to my knowledge, so they are basically all just guessing.
My birthday is in August, but even I don't have that kind of confidence. personally, I have tentative hopes for christmas.

Just looked at Chips and Bits to see what they had listed, and they show an October 2001 release.
My guess is that these companies are just trying to create some revenue on pre-orders by setting a release date, and that they don't know any more than we do. Probably is a smart move on Firaxis's part to not set an official release date yet, that way we won't be disappointed when and if it passes.
Maybe our discussion will spur some input from Firaxis (hint, hint).

Yes! Firaxis, don't give us a release date until you KNOW for sure that is what the release date will be! Why do you need to tease? Why? For to please your fans? To be a man? I think it stands, that you will be mean if you should seem to release a game that is lame to soon, like in June.

So ,if it's released in the US in October 2001, then Britain should get it around ... December (2021 that is)

Yeah, but something exact like 17 Oct. must have come from somewhere. I doubt amazon.com came up with that without a hint from Firaxis.

Actually they didn't get the info from Firaxis. Firaxis is not the publisher, they are the developer. Infogrames is the publisher, they are fronting the money for this project. And as we all know, money talks...

slippage .. j'acusse
if its reported as october then it'll probabkly come later, in around december.. a game big as this will definetely slip past the marketing departments guesstimate,
if it could arrive near my 24th birthday october 8th , it'd be the best present for me tho

Actually, Firaxis has told them NOT to post such a release date. But you gotta sell pre-orders, you know...

I still hold that the best release date for a game is when it is ready. If that is possible.

No, it means that you are examing the classics in literature. Haven't you ever read Yurtle the turtle? it's a critical analysis of a monarchy and how communism takes over!

Of course, I'm awaiting the release, but I'd prefer to get it a month later rather than hurried, but incomplete, like it was with CtP 2, when they hurried the game for new year, and forgot about the AI and MP support. If it comes out in December, I'm sure Civ 3 will be my new year present.

Firaxis has said they are shooting for Fall, thus it follows:
Sept. Oct. Nov. = FALL and Oct. 17 is the middle of the week in the middle of the month in the middle of Fall.

The problem with pre-orders is that if you commit and do it and when release date comes along you might see it on the local computer store shelve before you get it in the mail.

I solve one of the greatest mysteries in gaming (retailer release dates) and that is the best you can say? Well, I'll actually be asleep soon and promise not to post for another 10 hours...enjoy!

The shooting season starts on the "glorious twelfth" as any Scotsman should know. If Firaxis are going to be off shooting for the whole of the season then if they don't go gold before the 11th October I won't expect anything from them until march, which co-incidentally is when PC Gamer predicted

A never-ending source of pedantry II
Yin, in actuality Fall starts on or about the 21st of sept, and ends on or about the 21st of dec. Therefore, december is more properly considered a part of Fall than september.
