Sure, Farmboy, you're welcome to join in. The game is in the MGE version, earlier versions won't work. If you have this version, play your turn before KrazyHorse, who can only play on weekends. If you don't have this version, post and let us know...

No CD-ROM
Okay, here's the deal, I have, in seperate folders, 2.42, FW, and MPG. So that I can play different saves and stuff. But now, for some reason my CD-ROM has decided to act like it doesn't exist on my computer. That is bad in the fact that I can't run MPG. Now I am limited to playing my scenarios on fantastic worlds, as that version doesn't need the CD to play. ARGH!!!!! So I guess I can't play in this game as I won't be able to join in. Thanks anyway.

I downloaded the game just to see what it was like, and I just have one question.... Why the heck are the cities sooooo far apart? I'm not an ICSer here, but I do like to use my terrain to the fullest. I liked how it looked, but I'm just curious.. why so far?

Well, I haven't taken a look at the game since I played it, but part of the problem may have to do with the fact that I discovered an advanced tribe wayyyyy off from the rest of our civ, and I found a NON settler wayyyy off to the west.

Okay; somebody *eyes Marquis suspiciously* doesn't believe in building city improvements.

KrazyHorse II comes to power in 20 a.d.

In 20 a.d. I switch all war production to peace production. We need more settlers! Not to build more cities, but to build tile improvements. Next turn, it's goodbye Vikings. I may not be a warlike player, but come on...Marquis had parked a vet crusader and a legion outside Uppsala, their last city. I rushbuild some settlers due to impending disorder. Luckily, Michelangelo's going to be finished soon. We have to do something about our science rate; 12 turns per discovery? After Mike's is finished around 200 a.d., I rush Cope's in Teotihuacan. This gets us down to 9 turns/discovery. Lots of settlers built, lots of terrain improvements added. I wish there were more rivers; it's very difficult to irrigate the interior. Our next tech goal is Invention, and after that Explosives. I love it when your army of settlers all get transformed by Leonardo's into engineers. I don't think there would be any problem taking out the Babylonians, but I want them as a buffer against the Chinese. All the cities that have settlers working on them are now building libraries, marketplaces, etc. I left it up to the next king, but I think it's time to start disbanding our enormous army; I want to go back to republic (or democracy, since that's getting close). I figured out that the map is one of Central America. I think I know where Cuba is, so I send a trireme with some caravans on it to investigate. Sure enough...it's the Russkies, on Cuba. I wonder if they've got any nukes? I trade for the Wheel and for Iron Working, and then I run a couple of caravans into Moscow for some tasty bonuses. I get ~250 gold for the first one, which almost fills my science meter. I wait one turn so that my scientists can discover Medicine, and then I run the next one in for ~100 gold. Next stop: Engineering. I discover that, and am now working on Invention. I realise that my time's been up for the last 3 turns, so I reluctantly give up the throne to the next king.

Following Hydey's retirement, Antlericus II is elected President in AD 880.

AD 900: A new temple to Quetzalcoatl opens in Tula. Our wise men have made up for their earlier blunders by discovering how to build bridges. A Babylonian militia attacks some of our settlers and is annihilated.

AD 920: An attempt to invade Babylonia is met with severe protests in Tula. To satisfy them, the forces assigned to invade are withdrawn. The city of Coatepec is founded just north of Trondheim. Antlericus II manages to secure a peace treaty with Babylonia.

AD 940: The Russians land a force of charioteers with catapult support in the Yucatan. They've also begun production on the Lighthouse. They demand the technology of Gunpowder, and we refuse. They then agree to a peace treaty. Antlericus II orders production on a project codenamed "Leonardo's Workshop." Exactly what this is is unclear, but it has something to do with military equipment. Also, we discover Chemistry.

AD 960: Chalchihuites is founded.

AD 980: Tlalmanalco and Chalco complete some temples.

AD 1000: In response to the High Council meeting in Texcoco without his permission, Antlericus II promptly executes all other members of the High Council. Supply caravans reach Tenochtitlan, the center of the "Leonardo's Workshop" project.

AD 1020: Tamuin sets aside space for a Marketplace. Navigation is discovered. Simply because it sounds promising (and because he's a pyromaniac), Antlericus II orders research on explosives.

AD 1040: Teotihuacan completes its Marketplace.

AD 1060: Our diplomats report that the Russian forces abandoned Smolensk to barbarian pirates.

AD 1080: King Richard's Crusade is completed in York. We complete research on Explosives.

AD 1100: St. Petersburg completes The Lighthouse. As soon as possible, we will direct our research path so as to render it useless

AD 1120: A food caravan reaches Atxcapotzalco.

AD 1140: It's a bloody AI conspiracy! Can't research anything going to Magnetism. Feudalism research complete, now researching Metallurgy.

AD 1160: AAAAAAAAARRRGGGHHHHH!!! Tenochtitlan is in CD. Can't make citizens entertainers without causing starvation. As a temporary fix, luxury rates are raised to 20%; science is down to 60%, but it's worth it. We're still pumping out discoveries every five turns (soon to be four).

AD 1180: Mass celebrations throughout the Empire. Leo's Workshop rushbuilt in Tenochtitlan.

AD 1200: Research on metalworking complete. Now researching basic physics. Leo's Workshop complete! Its effects are felt immediately, as most of our units are upgraded and equipped with more advanced weaponry and equipment.

AD 1220: Adam Smith's Trading Company is rushed in Texcoco.

AD 1240: Adam Smith's Trading Company complete! Antlericus II celebrates this and the new Courthouse in Teotihuacan by having the entire High Council executed again With this project complete, the merchants and civil engineers are apparently more willing to do volunteer work to maintain our urban infrastructure.

AD 1280: The long reign of Antlericus II ends.

Following Antlericus II's retirement, the census-takers and statisticians compiled this interesting list of facts about the Aztec Empire:

Approval Rating: 67% (1st)
Population: 5,660,000 (1st)
GNP: $315,000,000 (1st)
Manufactured goods: 196 MTons (1st)
Area: 924,000 mi2 (1st)
Literacy: 80% (1st)
Disease: 20% (1st)
Pollutants: None (1st)
Life expectancy: 45 years (1st)
Family size: 4.4 children/family (1st)
Military Service: 2 yrs (7th)
Annual Income: $74 per capita (1st)
Productivity: 62 (1st)

As you can see, Antlericus II didn't believe much in force, except when it came to his advisers.

Oh, and Rasputin? I think the Babylonians might have snuck some units behind my lines (they've denied it), and those dang Russkies are still there. Don't screw up and declare war on either of them, ok?

President Rasputin returned to the leadership , only to discover he was i nthe boring part of teh life cycle..

Not much happened in the next 300 years..

Many graniries built much trade going on a few citys built many virigns sent to the Whitehouse for the president..

no wars t ospeak of, peace was made with the aggresive babylonioans..

In sheer bordom , president Raz ordered the renaming of all Aztec citys, he couldnt pronounce them anyway..

The main historical significance of this period was the mass building of Roads and then Railroads, Rasputin wants all citys linked by high speed rail, unfortunatly this project wasnt completed by the end of his reighn , hopefully the future leaders will complete it.

Also a new fleet was built and started exploring the seas...

Right...

I'll be leaving on 7/20 (Friday). I won't be back until 7/29, so until I return, skip over my turn.

While I will be bringing Civ II MGE on a laptop along with me, I won't be able to hook it up to the Internet, and playing Civ II on that laptop (or SMAC) would be tediously slow, since I have to keep holding down the "Fn" key to do movements and such.

However, I will be bringing along a copy of the latest succession game. Once I get back, I'll post a summary of how I do with it.

1610 - Marctli Desotlac is elected president of the Aztecs. The nation is glorious and large, well off and wise. As there is no need to grow, he orders the continuation of land improvements. While the laborers work, he holds interviews for palace internships with their daughters. Lovely maidens come by the score to apply for the prestigeous positions.

His first act is to rename all cities to their old Aztec names, as polls of an old mango vendor in the capitol show that the people want this. Besides, he can pronounce them. Merchants are a bit befuddled by which city lies where.

1620 - Gold and spice freights delivered to Cempoala and Trondheim.

1630 - Theologians formulate a new theology. That's just what theologians do, they explain. Wine and silk delivered to Ixtapaluca and Tlatelolco.

1640 - Gold delivered to Tultitlan.

1650 - Science advisors come up with the genius idea of conscripting young men into the army. The workshop designs new guns and uniforms for the riflemen.

1660 - Silver and silk delivered to Atzcapotzalco and Texcoco.

1680 - Scientists discover the power of magnetism. Refrigerator manufacturers invest heavily in the new technology.

1690 - Gold delivered to Huexotla.

1700 - Scientists publish paper explaining how they have harnessed electricity. Ambassadors report that the Great Library has not seen a visitor in a year since the teevee was invented using this new technology. Silver delivered to Tzintzuntzen.

1710 - Coal and beads delivered to Tepexpan and Ellipi. A shipload of musty old hides is sold on the market of St. Petersburg for a whopping 264 gold! Merchants take note of how much the Russians will cough up for worthless old attic stuffing.

1720 - Darwin's Voyage completed. Scientists get so excited about this man's amazing insights that they quickly formulate two new technologies - electronics, which allows cable teevee, and steel, a new alloy that could prove useful in killing foreigners.

1740 - Guatemala settled southeast of Babylon. No, we tell them, it has nothing to do with strategic location. Spice is delivered to Jilotzingo. Russian merchants in Moscow pay us 330 gold for a shipment of cheap wine! "September was a good year," we tell them.

1750 - Engineers finally devise a way to clear all the stinking xit from the city streets. This sanitation system can be a boon to health, they say. A bead freight and transport in search of Little Bighorn discovers the Sioux on islands to the south and east of Russia. They immediately declare war on us. A menacing trireme with a purple flag floats past. Coal is delivered to Chalco.

1756 - Scientists discover a way to refine petroleum. Coal is delivered to Montreal. An exploring transport and diplomat meet the English just north of St. Petersburg. They are icy, but don't declare war when we laugh at their demand for the knowledge of gunpowder. Their trireme must have come from the north, so the transport heads that way.

1756 - Suffrage is granted to Aztec women. In exchange for the right to vote, they promise not to get uppity when their sons and husbands are sent off to die on foreign soil. The president thinks now is a peachy time to roll out a few cruisers to see if Sioux phalanx shields can withstand 6 inch shells fired from two miles. In the name of science, of course.

1758 - Hammurabi discovers that President Desotlac is the real father of his children, and the Babylonians declare war. A diplomat is poised to bribe Ellipi as soon as the riflemen from Guatemala take Babylon. Before the blood begins to spill, President Desotlac and Hammurabi's wives retire to a pleasant cottage resort with an ample supply of mangos and massage oil.

All the freights delivered during this presidency totaled over 1500 gold. Accountants are unable to find where much of it went, and are suspicious of Desotlac's new jewelry. Alas, there is no paper trail. In any case, the Aztecs are still supreme. Many improvements have been built, including the first factories. It's time to go kill neighbors, may the next president have fun!

I guess its 10 turns each now.
Ok my trusty science adviser, how many turns does it take for you to come up with something. " 10 turns prez" was the foolish reply, Off with his head.
And so the Hydey's returned to power , reduce those taxes and build some bloody improvements, these cities are pathetic. I want 4 discoveries in the next 20 years (10 turns) and I want to build a big arse dam to power some factories to get our nation working again.

1778 Build heaps of stuff in cities
1780 see 1778
1782 discover refrigeration, now we can keep the beer cold
1784 build more stuff and trade a bit of stuff
1786 discover radio, now I can listen to the cricket while drinking cold beer
1788 more building and trading
1790 ditto ditto ditto
1792 discover leadership,
build HOOVER DAM.
1794 Bribe a pommy city that had been taken by barbs.
1796 Discover Espionage.

Well my 10 turns are up, Aztec Demographics show us 1st in all but military service (7th) and discoveries now at 3 turns.

I believe Vlad is away so its over to you Raz.
Hydey believes this civ is in good hands of raz the madman.

Right... I'll take my turn after Rasputin's done.

BTW- what does everyone think of my new avatar? Granted, it's a lot yellower than it should be, but that's just a result of the conversion from bitmap to .gif format...
