Looking for an Artist
Greetings fellas,
I am in need of someone who is willing to do a bit of artwork for my upcomming Stalingrad scenario. I am looking to use the terrain2 trick to convert mountain terrain into the Mamayev Kurgan. It is a hill that rises 1,000ft above the city and was the site of fierce battles, and in fact changed hands many times during the battle. Here is a look at the shape of what I have going for me now, merely the standard mountain terrain. The hill needs to be grassy with perhaps a few small trees scattered about. I can picture what I'd like it to be, but it is sort of hard to convey it...
I know some of you are really good at this, so any help would be greatly appriciated. Thanks.
FMK.

FMK, you aren't going to use those forests I see in the picutre in your scenario are you? Yuck! Use Nemo's.

I have only 1 terrain square available for the forrest, so it will be quite repetitious. Tha scenario takes place obviously during the fall and proceeds into winter. So I used these trees because they have a bit of autumn in them. They also coincide nicely(I feel) with the steppe terrain. There are alot of oranges going on. Do you have a suggestion as to which trees by Nemo you feel are better, from which scenario? I'll be happy to check 'em out for sure. IIRC they were mostly just green though. And keep in mind I literally have only 1 square to use.

I got this one from the "nemoland" graphics collection (I don't remember where I downloaded that one though), you will have to manippulate it yourself so that it takes up only one tile (I would put ground under the last one and use that).

Klesh,
I'll give it a go. Its my first time doing this terrain stuff though, but I have a good feeling. I do have some questions though. You said the hill rises 1,000 feet, but how long is it? How large to you want the trees? I'm trying it w/out the trees right now, but if you want them, I'll want to know that too.

Thank you JMarks! Give it a shot.
A couple of posts above is the shape that this thing needs to be.
Have you seen how these dudes make galaxies and planets for space scenarios? There is a nice write up by Koyabashi on this topic, but I couldn't figure it out. Basically I want those 8 squares seen above to look like one big hill. It might be out of proportion with other things, but guess what...this is a game, you guys will have to use your imaginations.
As far as the trees go, if you use smaller ones like these from Nemo's Blitz scenario, or the like, it may deceive the viewer into seeing it a 'large' hill, you know, enhance the effect.
Feel free to send the strip of 'mountain' terrain to my email address if or when you finish... AVANT393@aol.com

Booyah!!!
Yeah, it showed up as a red X the first time...
Man, That looks GREAT!!!!
I was also thinking of this... After you add trees and whatnot, what about small obsticles or sandbags, or something that would convey that it is a prepared position....barbedwire perhaps?
This is exactly what I envisioned...you are making it come to life.....Excellent!!!
I can't believe I am about to do this...
I JMarks.
there...I did it...sorry

Sure, I could attempt that too, if you really want. I would just need to know where on the hill? Anywhere? Halfway? Is there any info I need to know in preperation?

I have looked all over the internet for good info on Mamayev Kurgan. Alas, the virtual tour I found here is about thew best i can find....and it doesn't have any kind of battle stuff. Just a tour of the place as it is today, a monument site. Basically, I would imagine that each side as they won controll of the hill's summit, they would try to prepare some kind of protection from the inevitable counter-attack. From what I've read, the entire hill was strewn with boddies from both sides at the battle's conclusion.
But, use your imagination....I'm thinking like barbed wire at the bottom, then maybe a line of sandbags around the middle of the slope, and perhaps a bunker or something at the top....play around, it's looking great man!

JMarks... If you want...you can send me that strip of terrain, and I can take over from here trying the bunkers and the like. I don't want to ask to much of you. You have done a great job so far. If you get tired of the job, send her on over and I'll pick up where you leave off. If you are up to it...by all means continue!
Thanks,
FMK.

I'm willing to continue, though how long this next step will take I don't know. If you are concerned for time I'll send it, because I won't always be able to work on it, only occasionally.

Time is on my side.......................yes it is.
Take as long as you need my friend. I am in no rush, and there is alot still to be done in the scen. Honestly, I was just getting anxious 'cause it looks so good. Keep it up!
