Story Ideas Needed.
Since there was a thread asking where were the stories on S&D I decided to make a poll of what kind of story should we do to bring the stories back to S&D. So please vote if only if you are committed a resurrection of storie in S&D. Myself I prefer a fantasy story on S&D

I prefer a Fantasy one as well. I loved the threads we had here. The Frontier requires a forum for a living game, and I personally like threads for smaller games.
Unfortunately, I'll be gone (or have scarce Internet access) until July 21.

Maybe we could try a FRPG (like D&D)? I'm doing something like this by e-mail now, but these forums might make it easier.

Fantasy is nice but only if you are native in english. It simply does not work with stupid germans and french etc
World geopolitical was always great. But I would recommend against tryinbg the old things again. Personally, I would only play in such a thing if there were clear rules. I donīt want to see "unrealistic" events anymore and the discussions about it. I believe those stories could use moderator(s), "gods", if you like. Those should hold extensive powers, including the right to delete posts that are stupid.
My ideal solution would be that people donīt post "results" of their actions, but only their "plans" and "orders". Only the moderator(s) should post the results. Example:
"Germany: order to fifth corps to attack Rom along the via Appia while a reinforced brigade forces the bridges at..."
"Italy: Reinforcements are brought in from.. by..."
"Moderator: the german assault reaches as far as... xyz is taken, heavy casualties etc etc"
The same of course would work for other stories, not just such as W99. But I believe you donīt really need it there. Yet you need it in TW-style stories.
Of course the moderator(s) could also post unexpected events. Like a bad crop or an earthquake.
Finally I would suggest that stories are always closed for at least one or two days a week. Like over weekends. Reason: many people cannot post every day. We saw that in W99. It gave those people a serious disadvantage. It may help if there is some "breathing room". It was always my impression that posting in W99 slowed down condierably over weekends. So why not hold the story there?

I'd prefer Fantasy. Being constrained by real life is too difficult for my puny brain

Those are other sites where the Stories part is more involved than here at Apolyton.
BTW, one of your selects, "The Fall of the US" is an extreme fantasy, it would never happen

I only have the Frontier's site location, I don't know if I am supposed to be promoting that site at Apolyton, MarkG or Michael the Great, let me if I am out of bounds on this, sorry if I am.

As for the USA, no way is this country going under, I believe our strength is in our diversity.

Guys, can we get a clarification of the term 'fantasy' here? In my mind fantasy refers to a genre of literature often associated with or as a subset of science fiction by bookstores. However fantasy typically deals with things like fairy tales, (Lord of the Rings, Earthsea, Narnia, Wonderland, etc.) The type of story concepts that I see being bandied about are the same old "war threads" where a player claims "Control" of a nation and writes stories about it. This is not fantasy! I'm not sure what it is, but I guess if you needed a term then science fiction would cover it better.
Anyway, I am interested in a fantasy game/story concept like D&D or Boshko's previous suggestion of En Guarde! (a FRPG designed for PBEM). Is anyone else mildy interested in this concept? I'm not trrying to put down the war threads. I dodn't care for them, but that's my preference. I'm just wondering if we are all talking about the same thing here.

Yeah, I agree with Ruffhaus. When I think Fantasy, I think monsters, castles and the like, not tanks and modern cities, even if there is some "twist" to the tale. I wouldn't wanna do D&D though, if only for the stigma ( ), but what is En Garde?

Fantasy clafication
What I meant by fantasy was things that had to do with Magic, mythical races and creatures, heros that define the genre. The most advanced weapontry in a fantasy story thread are Aquebuses and canons. That's how I define a fantasy story thread. The example was one of the more interesting story threads that was started on ACS S&D. It made the premise of the poster to either head a kingdom or be a character or group of people in the story thread. It takes a lot of commitment to pull fantasy thread off though.

Well, I'm not sure it does take much more commitment than any other type... after all, with Fantasy you don't have to worry about being accurate, or have real-world constraints (although when I was a part of the title-fantasy thread before, some guy kept telling me that I couldn't use physical force on his creature, then when I tried magic, he vetoed that too, so it's not free from control-freaks ), and if you need to take a break, you can have your character frozen by a spell or something like that. It's usually a lot of fun though. As long as the players in any story thread are more concerned about the story than "winning", it can work just fine

Don't have these "realistic" stories. That's no fun.
I'm interested in wacky and funny and mostly FUN story threads.
Kinda like we had on Off-Topic but more ... ehm... sane

It looks like a fantasy based story thread won out. I will probably get an idea out tomorrow. PolarisGL and Ruffhaus8 please contact me via e-mail with any ideas that could make this a success.

Trouble is, here they get swamped with dip playing... besides, most of the players have migrated from Apolyton to The Frontier.
