MARKOS! SidGolf is NOT my fault!!!
Oh Lord, I hope not anyway...it would be just the kind of sick and twisted joke I could see God playing on me, though. My stomach hurts. Markos, this is really cruel. CURSE YOU MARKOS!!!

YIN RESPONSIBLE FOR SID'S GOLF AND CIV3 DELAY?
(6 July 2001, 5:05 EST)
Unfortunately, it looks that way. Yin, by his own mistake, revealed that he is the first to mention the idea of a golf-related game by Sid Meier! Making a post about an old column article of his on civ3, everyone realized that the first mention of a golf game by Sid was made by Yin.
Therefore it seems clear now that the whole "I was leafing through a golfing magazine and I got the idea" story that Sid has given is simply untrue! Everyone can easily realise that a "I was browsing Apolyton as I do every day, saw the words 'Sid Meiers Golf' together and knew instantly that I wanted to do it" story is much more feasible!
It's really a shame that someone who has contributed a lot to the civ community, is the reason of one more delay in civ3 by injecting the idea of a new game to the developers....

Thanks Y and M, for putting a little humor in this forum. With the lack of information recently, it's really been so depressing here. People were forgetting that it's just a game and were taking it way to seriously. As time has passed and all the regular stuff has been talked about to death, the new ideas are getting more and more obscure and bizarre.
Thanks again.
RAH
And being a golfer, some of us will be looking forward to Sid's newest addition.

Rah: Do you think Sid is just doing this to punish me? I know you like golf and everything, but wouldn't you like to wake up tomorrow to the headline:
Quote:
|
Sid hits a hole-in-one...and it AIN'T golf!
In a stunning bit of news today destined to go down as one of the industry's best pranks ever, Sid's Golf game was revealed to be just a hoax...and the world fell for it! 'I can't believe anybody would EVER think I'd do a Golf game! GOLF, people! I made F15 Strike Eagle for goodness sake!' said a stunned Sid in a hilarious interview today. 'Actually, I've been hard at work 24/7 slaving over Civ3, and somehow I've done the impossible: To borrow some silly terms floating around, I've just created Civ 4!', said the Master of Gaming himself. The world can rest easy now...and Yin can finally sleep."
|
I pray for that headline. Otherwise, this must all be a bad dream...

I think it is just fair considering that you have stated in another thread the reasons why you will not buy the golf game YOU suggested to Sid.
I call this a bad case of " hit and run"
Giving the idea and not even interested in the final product...
Btw. This is fun.

"Sid hits a hole-in-one...and it AIN'T golf! "
LOL Y,
The strides made in sim golf have leveled out. We really need someone to push the envelope and take it to a new level. I think Sid can do it, and I wish him luck.
I can see it now, standing on the first tee, after selecting Diety level. A 650 yard par 5. In the middle of my backswing, a horde of barbarians pouring out of the left sand trap screaming "you wanted a bloody handicap, we're your handicap" and then attacking with modified 5 irons.
You can have your nightmares, and I'll have my dreams.

Hmmm...
Actually, sacrificing yin may be the only thing that keeps the crowds of info-hungry apolytoners from tearing each other's guts out in meaningless argument. Yin: I salute you.

Or you could be waking up to the headlines:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
May 2002:
In an interview with Sid Meier about his upcoming release of 'Civ3 the golfing experience' Sid talks of how his work on Sid Golf helped in coming up with the entire diplomacy, warfare and research areas in Civ3TGE. " Well when I first saw the idea of a SidGolf game in a post by Yin26 I just thought of a golf game whos ultimate aim would be to delay the release of civ3 to build up the anticipation of the public, and of course FiraxisGolfers apologise for the riots in many large cities throughout the US as a result of this." Sid went on to describe in detail the areas od Civ3TGE directly affected by Yin26. " Basically we scrapped the old diplomacy method and in its place we have the player actually playing a game of golf with the rival leader, The winner of this game would then put forward his proposals to the opponent leader who would then consider this with you during another game of golf, and so on. Now the Warfare would be more tricky, here you have teams who you train to play golf. You upgrade these teams throughout time by inventing iron working for iron clubs etc. The stronger your team the more chance it has of winning against the enemy team. Of course you get to watch the entire game of golf between the two teams in 3D."
Not exactly what the community was expecting but Sid is confident we will see record breaking sales worldwide.

DarkKnight, LOL
Willie, what did you have to mention "no civIII news yet" for? You got me depressed again
I stopped posting here since most talks now won't affect the game. Or will they?
Firaxis, please tell us howmuch do out posts now can affect it?
I mean, I'm pretty sure they can.
After all, all first interviews mentioned the "unique units and civs" as something they are really excited about. However recent interviews show that Firaxis isn't that crazy about the idea, and when asked in what interviews about new cool features, they left out unique units and civs completely !
That means, that the huge amount of discussion here, showed them that most disagree with Unique Civs as being the standart and think that it can be an option for mods and scenarios, but it isn't fit to be stand alone, single player civ!
I see it as an accomplishment of this community. I know that still the differencesd of opinions are there, and most are intrigued by this option, but only as an option. Most don't want to lose the generic civs. So our very active debate helped. I'm glad.

On the other hand, Yin, SidGolf could be a big run away seller that injects badly needed cash into Firaxis, so they can take all the time in the world to write Civ 4.
You could become an Accidental Hero
