Vik - Scouse means a person who comes from Liverpool. (It can also mean the local Liverpool dialect, as well as a "Merseyside" stew)
Git is a contemptible person.
Yes, there are two of us - why? Because, there are not three of us!(yet)
When we first registered, there was a doubt as to whether my e-mail would be acceptable to Apolyton, so instead we used SG1's address.
Hope you're not toooooo confused.

SG*,
I am still confused, but less so than before. Don't you people speak English over there? I've never heard of a 'scouse' or a 'git' but I have eaten a mighty fine breakfast food called "grits."
Based on a recent large-world scenario you (or your brother) submitted in another thread, I would have believed one from Liverpool is called a "Liverpudlian."

I speak English, you speak American. Grits? Are you eating a road?
Remember, we are two nations separated by a common language!
Liverpudlian is another adjective for people/things from Liverpool. (Both Scouse and Git are informal/slang words, so I doubt whether you would find either in an American dictionary.)
What do they call you guys from Colorado Springs?

Hi vik - I just did a quick Web search of "Scouse" and turned up -- They might be helpful!
However, a similar search on "Git" failed to find anything useful - try an on-line dictionary.
SG(2) and myself met at the Bridge table and have since become firm friends - I corrupted SG(2) into the horrors of computer gaming and he quickly became a Civ fanatic and that, in turn, made me return to this wonderful game after quite some time away.

Ok, being Canadian, I can probably bridge the language gap between the brits and the yanks (I spell colour with a u, but favorite without - I don't know why, I just do). I would translate "you stupid git", an expression I've heard on many english comedies, to simply "you idiot" in american.
Vik, I doubt there's anyone left who's actively working on the previous OCC scenario (it's been over 2 weeks now). I'd encourage you to post it now.

We and the media/ads people call this place the 'Springs' since there are no larger cities with Springs in the name. Informally, this area is called 'Silicon Mountain'.
As for us locals? Don't think there's a name (don't say Springers ).
BTW vik, whatcha do here?

Been here since the late 1980s and I've seen it grow from 250,000 to 500,000. I live in Cheyenne Meadows.
For those know the Front Range of Colorado, we are having one of those typical spring weather: sun, wind, rain, snow - all in the same day.

Great game, I loved the Capt. Ahab & the whales and named my city Nantucket after the famous local whaling island. My personal best OCC finish - landed 1877 but I didn't keep a log. Had a great start - Monarchy the 2nd science I got to research, got 3 trade routes to Athens early before they turned vicious. Got a fair amount of gift money from allies English and Canadians. Couldn't get Americans to ally, they always wanted me to war on English. I gave away a fair amount of tech, but maybe not enough. I went for Miniaturization (for Offshore Platform) early instead of Computer, thinking I'd need many more freights than normal. I did use the freights - 15 extra for 1 per SS Structural since I didn't go for 80 shields per turn. And then 2 freights per SS Module + getting 60 shields, and bought the 3 Components, so I did wind up building the ship in minimum time. But my science was slower because of neglecting Computer in favor of Miniaturization so maybe that wasn't the best choice. Missed Darwin's for the first time, but it didn't hurt much. Only got one polluted square, but it takes a long time for a lowly settler to clean it. Never even built a Manufacturing Plant, but I did build supermarket (little benefit) and superhighways (definitely worth it).

Well, it's a good month after you guys played this one but here's my attempt!!! Managed my best finish yet, AC in 1853ad
I was Friday, as in Man Friday and I settled Paradise. I had a nightmare with the AI, all the other civs were thick as pig ****, i got one exchange of tech in the whole game and that was fussion which i could have done myself. I only got 300 gifts from my English allies, everyone else was peaceful but wouldn't ally!!! I even gave away every tech to every civ, upto and including computers and had ZERO competition at the end!! A quick sneak attack by the greeks in 1840ish, but that's it?!?!
Everyone have a look at this and see where i went wrong!??! i got a republic way before everyone else, but kind of lost my way in the mid game?!?!

Cheers Scouse!!! It's a bit of a funny way to compare them, cause i've played back through these in reverse chono... which makes occ5 my 4th game where as the next one would be a better comparison
Do any of you guys know where i went wrong just after republic? i got republic 1000 years before anyone else, but then it went pear shaped for a few 1000 years!! I've got the space thing sorted, i just didn't have enough caravans!!!! i managed to store 14 for the end, but i didn't have time to build more!!!

You waited too long to WLTCD to size 12. You only got to 12 in 60 ad but the other players got to 12 well in the bc era. That's because you don't build a colosseum which means that you only start growing after you build Shakespeare's Theatre.

Doesn't colleseum come with construction? i was slow getting construction too i think!!! and if i'd taken a few years out to build the colleseum, i'd have been slower to get shakespeares and the observatory!!
Paul: i also struggled to get the observatory and theatre sooooo close together like you and Huey??? i'm guessing you guys had a stack of caravans, and both of those wonders need 400 sheilds?!? I think i need to sit down and seriously analysis your logs!!!
I also think i got really unlucky with my explorer!!! i went exploring to the west, past the greeks, they'd got all the huts before me, i wandered for centuries without meeting anyone else?!?! argh!!!!! and when i did they were thick as pig **** anyway, so i couldn't exchange techs?!?!?! then he got bribed by the bloody canadians?!?!

Just to clarify Huey's remark - sorry if you already know this Oldman - the most cost effective way to build caravans is to let them start then incrementally rush them until they are completed in one turn and that way you get them every other turn. e.g. if your production is 10 shields turn 1 you have 10 shields, rush phalanx, diplo, trireme - you now have 40 shields (at cost of 75g) and it says 1 turn to caravan - let the last ten shields pour in naturally.
Well - it is now the received wisdom thst it is good to give away all your techs so if we continue to share knowledge like this we should all be landing in BC by the end of the year ...

Yeah, i was rushing my caravans too, but dumb arse here (me) forgot about the incremental rush buying thing?!?!?! and it's a good point you mentioned i hadn't thought of before Scouse, rush buying it upto where you can finish it naturally next turn!!!! i'll try that!!!
I did spend a lot of time managing my science, so that i only produce as many beakers are required or as near as possible!!! i think that helped me save a bit more cash for rush buying!!
I still think i was hard done by with the AI being soooo crap!! and a bit unlucky with my choice of direction for the explorer!?!?

Sorry for the out-of-sync post - the lot of the newbie playing catch-up .
This is my 4th OCC try - AC 1792 - seem to be getting the hang of it, very delibrately and slowly done, with close attention to the Paulicy (unlike my subsequent try at OCC11 where lack of focus was the feature) and yet I missed researching Sanitation until after Democracy having to languish at size 12 for a while .
Like a couple of others I built a trireme first. Being a bit claustrophobic my first reaction on seing the one square island was "Sh*t, gotta get outta here fast!" Tom, I think this particular scenario is a good one to practice OCC skills for a newbie. I ended up using the none-settler and one engineer to convert the 2 land squares to forest for the spaceship parts building phase, having to disband the engineer to maintain the 80 shields and having to rebuild the engineer when the pollution occurred - lucky this was just once at the final stages (which added some 3 extra turns).
I was also somewhat paranoid about the vulnerability of the island city. The phalanx paid off, holding off a couple of rammings by loaded barb triremes but maybe the early coastal fortress and the alpine troops during the rush building of the spaceship were over the top insurance? The other manifestation is when I stopped giving knowledge to the other civs after Space Flight - perhaps I'm misssing out from extra gifts from this time and the danger of their joining the AC race had been exaggerated?
A confirmation here that the tactic of having an alliance cancelled (which seems automatic after your refusal of a civ's demand for Space Flight once you've got it) works to your advantage - an instant free trip home for all the external none-units at a crucial time. Even the lowly horseman, disbanded, is a money saving starter in the incremental rushbuying of spaceship parts.
I'm thinking of working slogans for OCC. Mark I: Time may mean money (and money saves time) but timing is ACe.
The log - apologies for cryptic abbreviations (just decodable I think, eg fr+gk=CodeL is my short hand for "my giving Code of Laws to both France and Greece." The extra details eg on tls, science turns... are for my own learning reference.
