If i were to describe this game as a, say, basketball game, I'd say that the ball has 'dropped' like in the 25th Annual Mercy Hospital Geriatrics League
Well, nobody's perfect
Cash on delivery? You mean the postman takes the money? Holy ****! We have to go to the post office to get our packages. And there we pay for it to get it in advance, naturally.

Yeah, I imagine that about half of the American population has never been to the post office at all. For the most part companies like UPS or Fedex ship things overnight right to your doorstep. Depending on the protocol you either have to sign for them or they just drop them there.
Do you Finns have Anti-spam for snail-mail? My Danish friend told me that they simply tell the postman 'Hey, no catalogues and spam, ok!' and they don't get it. Here in the states you get everything, a total waste of paper. I swear, if we Americans thought of a new way to throw resources into the waste-bin, we'd be selling it to each other like Big macs....'Hey, did you get that new 'Air Gobbler?' ...'No, what's that?' ....' Oh, for only 19.95 dolars, it takes some perfectly good air and chews the hell out of it, making a big cloud of smog! Only problem is, it pollutes the water (ah the irony) when you have to change the smog cartridge'....'Oh, Cooooool! I'm going out to get one right now!'.

2106 to Vytae
A scary fungus field out north of my two bases, some nice sea squares near The Hive, enough green land... Looks like my social experiments are going to be continued further on.
And the view from the top floor of The Hive's HQ is absolutely amazing.
In Finland we can report to this organisation which involves nearly all magazine companies. So, no phone harassment at Finland. But against commercials there's just the possibility of a "No advertisements etc. please" sign on the door/mailbox. That helps only with "paper boys", guys who deal adds on private business. The state post can't bother about the signs, the companies have paid for it.
Hence, junk-mail is as hectic here as in the US.
It's kinda ********* that here, where there can be in worst situations over 100 kilometres to the nearest Post Office, we have to make the trip.
Lazy Americans

Doh, sorry Kass, I dropped the ball this time...I've been working on my new game (version of Smac) called Aldebaran. Check the prerelease notes in the Creation Threads if you like. Let's see, it's 4 AM in Finland, so it probably doesn't matter if I wait just an hour before posting the turn to you? soon soon 2108-kass.

2108 -> Vytae
Smack: Good maths, 4 AM is most correct. You have been busy lately, you naturally drop the ball if your hands are both tied! Do you know of the origins of world "Aldebaran"? Methinks it's from Celtic mythology.
BTW, that plot idea of yours... I've written a scifi-novel from last September (That's right, September 2000). It's running on version two or three now, v. 2 was 220 A4's long
What I mean is, in that novel the founding idea is that a spacecraft lands on Earth and so on, but the "aliens" are actually other humans from another part of the galaxy.

Kass, you a smart cookie! I'd like to read it, okies? Yeah, without giving anything away I can say that's pretty much the idea...with near-light speed travel it's easy for people that leave years after you to arrive before you, and even more possible that they could have aged and developed hundreds of years more than you. Of course, actual evolution into a new species would be a really really long time in all likelihood (developing Reproductive Isolating Mechanisms). Not sure about 'Aldebaran', but a star-mythology search did turn up some things that supported my using the name over 'Deneb', which I also liked. I don't believe Aldebaran is a likely planet-supporting system, but I havn't even checked that yet! I'm not looking for realism really, just fun.
-Smack
P.S. If you'd like to do some of the writing for the game Kass, I'd be honored...write me at the email in my profile. -S

Aldebaran is by far the brightest star of the constellation Taurus. The ancient name, from Arabic, means "the Follower," as the star seems to follow the Pleiades, or Seven Sisters star cluster, across the sky.

Or did you find my unit and backed off so I cannot see it on my screen?

In MP games you always have comlinks from all human players on very start.
For the sake of reality,I vote for no cooperation until our units meet but I'll go with anything what majority decides.
Opinions?

PS. I'm sending you an email after this.

Well, I wasn't Planning of going out and learning Finnish right away. Maybe you could give me a plot overview and a sample of the writing in English? I'm blatently trolling for ideas and styles for Aldebaran. While writing is my first love, I have no illusions that I'm any good at it. Basically, Aldebaran just heads in what I feel is the obvious direction for a sequel. In that sense, I'm not trying to be cute or creative, but I would like a coherence to the overall 'feel' of the game.
