Never fear, I'm still alive and kicking. I'm just worried that if I try to play a turn, I'll muck up the game for the next person (due to graphics, not gamesmanship, of course. )
I'll see if I can download it tonight and take a peak at it but in the meantime, don't wait on me.
And thanks to all for not forgetting me. It's much appreciated.

the Black Sea!
At the end of the year of our lord 1214, the Archbishop of Sodaq assumes once again leadership of our crusade against the unrighteous. Knights begin training in cities across the kingdom. Inquisitor correspondence courses are established as well.
1214 - Barbarians develop alphabet. We are awed by their genius. The Fatimids develop medicine, which we do not possess...
1215 - Gold to Brugge 68g. Evil Al-Andalus recaptures Zaragoza from the evil French.
1216 - Heathens of Sofia see the light of the true God reflected off 424 shiny gold coins.
1217 - Inquisitor learns the secrets of architecture from the Holy GeRomans. News reports indicate a fifth crusade reaching Egypt. We have no idea who this might be. The French re-liberate Zaragoza.
1218 - Inquisitor pokes around in Marieburg. There are five defenders, including a King. For lack of better things to that day, he destroys the Academy in the city.
1219 - Spice -> Bordeaux 126g; Beads -> Lyon 64g; Silver -> Leicester 85g; Dye -> York 72g; Dye -> Liverpool 86g.
1220 - Copper -> Paris 90g; Gems -> Marseilles 180g. Beresen joins the Holy English cause, for the small fee of 424g.
1221 - Dye -> Poitiers 160g. Onslaught of bad guys kills one of our knights outside Hamburg.
1222 - Dye -> Oxford 36g; Beads -> Gnesen 38g; Gems -> Nis 147g. Trade Byzantines architecture for knowledge of medicine.
1223 - We begin research of Alchemy. Our second knight outside Hamburg succumbs to the sheer numbers of GeRomans! Viborg appears to be targeted... Crossbowmen begin rush training in Viborg and Bremen.
1224 - Dye -> Cardiff 58g. Varna converted for 354g! The heathens in this city are cheap. We now have a Black Sea port! The Seljuk enemy is now within range... Our copper merchant on the way to Constantinople (gold! gold! gold! ) should be wary of the Seljuk fleet patrolling these waters (hint hint).
In other news, our peasants are building a road to Belgrad. Hamburg only has four improvements left. Sadly, the walls still stand.

Well done, Archbishop
2 remarks though:
1) A city bribed by an inquisitor is cheaper (that's why you got Varna for 354g).
2) A city attacked by inquisitors should not lose improvements other than the walls (unless you decide otherwise).

kcbob - We are all hoping that you will have more success this time round - if you d/l the save game into the same directory as the scenario (so long ago) you should have no problems (famous last words)...
All - unless Raz puts in a last minute appearance - I'm ready for next turn ... let the ungodly quail!

Yes, I stayed up too late playing, and had already turned off the machine before posting the save. I had even made the zip file! It will be here in several hours.

The Empire of the Crusaders was taken over by the Mad Monks from Australia....
The Great Raz discovered many of his citys were in crisus and riots were throughout the land. His first priority was to fix this and soon all the people were happy.
The Inquisitors managed to convince the inhabitants of Hamberg that the Aussie way was better and they agreed to join our crusade and sop too did the people of Bremen.
All our trade merchants were killed whilts crossing the European continent and so the rder was given to cease all further tranportation of merchants till the war was resolved.
Sadly off the coast of Spain the entire Crusaders Fleet was destroy d so the Greaz began building Docks to train his navy in to enable a tougher navy.
The Holy Roman empire soon converted the city of Breeman back to their ways but new Inquisitors sent out brought it bavk again.
To the east more exploration occured.
To the south the Fatimids conquered all in their way including the Crusaders town of Chersones.
No new discoveries were made....
nso ended the short reign of The Great Raz II

who's next
AFAIK kcbob is next.
He was #1 on the list, and #2 and #3 (namely Marquis and Raz) have already played this turn.
Please kcbob let us know whether you manage to download the savegame sent by Raz.

Well, KC seems to be out of the loop - I shall d/l and give it a whirl tomorrow - unless you appear kcbob ...
I shall also see whether I have anything constructive to say about your turn Raz - at the moment I haven't seen the game since forever ...

Rasputin, it is hard to say. Obviously, we would never get money enough to buy many rich cities, so after the gold merchants, the swords had to speak. What is it the right time or too early to start open war is the question.
Only time will tell and remember that history is always written by the winners (the ones who take it all according to ABBA).

OK - I have started - first thing was to change the empire from Tournament Games to Prisons and then onto Inquisitors - 30 currently under construction - the Northern Capital (Marienbad?) will fall and then the whole of the Northern HRE.
Raz, why were you exploring with Merchants???
Will post a log asap...

Raz
the very name of Waterloo is painful to my French ears...
but I can have a try at helping you with supposedly sound advice:
1) NEVER stop trading! (if your merchants got killed, it is probably that you sent them walking through enemy territory; that should be avoided, since you can usually quite safely: trade with friendly cities, or trade by sea with enemy coastal cities, or trade with enemy border cities).
2) Don't explore with merchants (they are costly and not clever at all at that kind of sport, compared with the mighty inquisitors, for example).
3) Don't send numerous strong units sailing onboard fragile boats if you don't rule the seas.

Merchants?? are they the freight equivalent?? I didnt think I was exploring with them, i was trying to get them to trade destinations as far as i remember...
The big problem with doing a Scenario such as tihs is not knowing what is what , I didnt know what to build in citys so chose TGs as all my citys were sad. What benifit is Prisons?? And how you going to keep people happy without TGs I had real trouble with that unhappy stuff...

as i said to Gits , i wasnt exploring with Merchants simply moving them to the Towns listed as wanting trade... I gave up moving my merchants by sea after i was attacked by enemy navy, and so had no choice but to go by land.
as for the units on board navy, as they were built in UK I had to transport them via sea to get to any where, they were sunk when passing spain on way to mediteranean....
Damn I have lot to learn !!!!

sorry guys - RL has been seriously interfering with the important things in life ...
Magdeburg was Inquisitor visited and having been reduced to a 1 city by judicious Heretic Burning and having it's City Walls ripped down in just punishment for its heretical ways a lowly Fanatic (just purchased for a small fortune (it was adjacent to the city - the AI tried to forestall the Dip-rape by surrounding the city with units!!) destroyed the city - Kiev immediately raised the British flag (after its prison mysteriously fell down) - all in all I think its about time to roll the HRE up like a carpet - look out Rome (and those juicy happy Wonders!)
I think it's SG2 next???

Have you received my PM Julius?
SG(2) is very busy (at work ... not with civ3 ). He asked me to play his turn. Since your turn is just after his, and mine just after yours, I asked you to play first (but I am ready to play before you if you prefer; let me know).

Thanks La Fayette - I should be able to play next time around. Yes, I have Civ 3 - but have hardly looked at it! The AI is much better and I feel lost not being able to build caravans.
