ugh, stupid barbarians!
i dont get why everyone likes playing on raging hordes, like they are sooo good because they play on that level of barbarian activity. whatever, the barbarians are a joke
in fact, having barbarians on such a high level will actually make the game much easier for experienced players because u get a steady income and nearly all your defending units will become veterans for EASILY winning the battles. the only disatvantage i see in barbarians is if they pillage on their way to the cities, but even this is hardly a problem.

Having lots of barbs makes people have at least one defender in there cities and not just pump out settlers having lots of undefended cities.

raging hordes keeps you honest in the early game which more than determines how you will fair later .....and there is no guarrantee that you will reap all of those kings......
early barb chariots or legions can wreak havoc if you don't have horses or other means to defend your self.....
in the early stagest they are the only threat.....without them...

Apparently you have never had your capital sacked by 2 barbarian archers who just had to land right next to your capital building HG defended by 2 warriors....

ok, now i can see why u would want it for MP, but for SP it just seem to great. it's such a waste of time watching the computer move countless armies of elephants all the way to my cities just to have them all slaughtered by muskateers. i'm not a diety player myself, however

Well even in single player having the threat of barbarians is a "game balancing" thing. In the latter stages of the game, when the other surviving civilizations are running around with elephants and musketeers against your tanks and stealth fighters (perhaps the single most powerful unit - 14 attacks!!!), the barbarian horde will be amply equipped with riflemen and/or partisans which can actually provide some sort of threat against your civ. Otherwise it becomes a joke.

Yes, I agree with those that like it for MP. It does force some people to build a little defense.
Nothing is better than to be playing an ICSer that doesn't defend and having the barbs destroy some of his early cities, followed by the player dropping out of the game saying he had crappy luck. But he's still the best player in the world.
RAH
I really respect the players that get some bad breaks early but stay in the game to at least the end of the first session.

Barbarians aren't what they could be. They appear from nowhere, and are very weak, plus if they capture cities, will be pumpong out those legions! True, later in the game, their units are better, but not in enough quantities. While those barbarian rulers are but a steady income of gold. I think they should be somehow give more strength, like starting out with a city, perhaps, and also have stronger units, thus making them almost as strong as other civs in the game.

I like using the "Barbarian Wrath" setting. when an uprising occurs, everybody has to drop what they're doing and put it down. even civs you are at war with stop attacking you for a while.

As long as it's not one of my first 4-7 cities, they're welcome to one. A never ending source of NON units for cheap. And once they've grown the city, it's still cheap to bribe and you get a few units in the deal too.
Barb cities are like AI cities, a treasure chest just waiting to be plundered.
