WOW! Great screenshot with a castle, a mansion, lush land--even sheep!!!
Of course, the land has those annoying flags stuck in it (they must be marking important resources!). But the roads look much improved, and it looks like sheep will be a valuable resource for meat, clothing and perhaps even direct happiness rating! BTW, are those units pikemen or musketeers? I can't quite make out the weapon...

... I wonder if those sheep wandering around the course effect the playability of your golf course.
Looking at that screen-shot gives me a very surreal feeling, similiar to having a nightmare that builds slowly and is very hard to wake up from.
I keep scrolling down to look at it again and again... feel sick and a little sorry for marcia... I want to wake up now.

Ok, Simgolf comes out of nowhere, and has what look to be excellent graphics (even if the game seems a bit pointless). Civ3 they've been working on for how long? - and it looks like crap. I can tell where Firaxis allocated their resources on this one.

Markos: Re-read it and see if you don't get the joke. If you DO get the joke but just don't like it, well I suppose that's another matter.
P.S. JOKE EXPLAINED:
The title makes you think, "Hey, Civ 3 is really coming along!" Then you come in and see a Sim Golf pic, which is actually pretty nice to look at, and you think: "Damn, why don't we have this caliber of stuff for Civ 3?"
This is a criticism of the fact that Civ 3 is being ignored. Thus, it really doesn't belong in the Other Games Section.

She's having a bad day because she'd rather be playing Civ 3.

yin, you shouldn't be complainnig....if I am to believe popular propoganda, you were responsible for SimGolf.
That said, I think Sid lied when he said he'd made this exciting new prototype and took graphic assests from Gettysberg....what actually happened was that he took all the graphics from civ3 and put them in simgolf, but then figured out - hmm, can't have two games looking exactly the same.
So he thought - all these interns and work experience kids moping around here at Firaxis with nothing to do...oh oh, I know - we'll let them do the graphics for civ3.
Or maybe Firaxis ran out of money because it hasn't released a game for 2/3 years and had to fire their art department, and Sid and Jeff did the graphics. Infact, the reason we haven't heard from DAn M. is because he got fired too. The only people left at Firaxis are Sid and Jeff.

alpha graphics
the civ3 screenshots we've seen so far are all alpha graphics.
If you watch all the screenshots we have closely you'll find evolution through them. The first screenshots are very different to the last ones.
they're just still working on the graphics.
btw, someone of firaxis mentioned that you have to see the graphics for real, since they're all animated and screenshots can't bring over those animations

Could it be possible?
I am also sure Will Wright's team did some work on the game too, judging from the graphics it does have a certain resemblence to that of the Dims, er, the Sims

Yin, if you'd posted it under the title "this is how good Civ 3 could look" then it would be perfect for the Civ forum. Your joke caught you out.
Repost it. Go on. You know you want to

The bottom control bar looks extremely similar to The Sims control bar. That leads me to believe that aside from Sid's consulting/producing influence, it's more of a Maxis product then Firaxis which mean less chance of programmers getting pulled off Civ3 to work on it.

Zanzin and Markos: I'm pretty sure the gates of heaven will be closed to me if I had ever influenced Sid in ANY WAY to make a golf game. This makes me even less in a hurry to die.
Grumbold: I thought about that. But something tells me Markos is looking for technicalities on this one...

SerapisIV: Actually, they said nearly half of their people are on Sim Golf!!! Of course, Maxis is apparently giving "ideas" and "guidance." Amazing. The first time Sid has ever put his name on a game he didn't actually create...wait a minute...
Anyway, yes, the entire look and layout of the game yells SIMIFIED. Hey, I just realized. It's not Sid Meier anymore. It's:
Sim Meier.
And it's no longer Firaxis. It's:
Fir(M)axis.

The look and feel is obviously built on the Sims. It looks impressive and it is definitely something I will be wasting my money on this fall.
I can only hope the graphics for Civ III get improved to something comparable to the Sim Golf look.

Yep, definetly looks like Maxis artists. Very nice and cartoony.
I prefer the Civ3 graphics myself .

Sheep?
Yin,
I take it you've never played Steve Hartel's Parsa Scenario. Sheep have been part of civ2 for some time Also goats and wild camels
Hint send your hunters (at least 2) after a sheep first, to get a non-settler, than once youve researched horsemen (whatever the tech is) send one out after a camel. That will give you a camel rider, who can be used to take more camels and sheep. Once you've got some stronger units you can go after the goats who are hard to kill not only cause of their higher defense but because they hang out on mountains. Kill a goat and you get a domestic goats, high shields when disbanded, great for early wonders.
LOTM
(who is indeed getting silly, but all of the above is true, see the scenario)
