Wait, there wasn't anyone to spoil the idyllic chat and ask Sid about the OTHER GAME? I mean, all people at chat were actually interested in that silly little game for obnoxiously rich people who cannot really run and are unfit for any decent sport?

LaRusso, the moderators at maxis were smart enough to screen all questions that were presented to sid, i sat in the chat room for an hour or so listening to sid talk about sim golf and spamming civ3 questions to the moderator in the hope one might slip through. alas, no luck, maybe firaxis will get a report about how many civ3 questions there were. i think i posted about 30 questions or so

I tried to get through to the sim chat, but I got timed out everytime I tried it....
I'm sorry Yin, but I consider myself more a realist than a pessimist, so I'll join the club of cyber shy. But I can relate to your motives.

Apolyton revenge ...
Yin take a look at: http://apolyton.net/about/.
The news about upcoming Apolyton third anniversary.
In the news we can read:

Now I just cann't wait to play it. OK, were did I put my driver?
Oh, I'll gladly join your club.

Welcome to Jeje2 who actually offered to join before I even really decided to post about the club. What a champ!
campmajor!: No problem! Like I always say, balance is healthy. You and Cyber be Luke and we'll be Darth.
cyber: I'm not a "member" of an unrealistic club. I'm the president! Just remember you are part of the Evil Quadratic Equation. Your public trickery isn't fooling anybody. By the way, I wish you the best of luck with your club. Maybe in a week or so we can have a Smack Down?
Grumbold: Welcome! Yes, your posting style makes you a poster-boy for the club!
H Tower: This is exactly the kind of constructive (well, let the debate begin on this one! ) activities our club can undertake! No harm in asking legitimate questions about Civ 3 in the Sim Golf chat, right? I assume they were good questions, so it's too bad we couldn't get answers. I, LaRusso and many Civers thank you. By the way: "i'm unhappy" to "lets start a baby tonight!" almost made me puke. Even those **evil grin ** comments on the earlier screenshots made me unable to eat any form of meat for about 3 days.
TechWins: Great! I understand exactly what you are talking about, and I promise that if anybody starts posting negative, whiney stuff under the club's name, we'll talk to him and try to fix it fast. I really appreciate that you want to keep the tone positive, as do I. By the way, the date stamp used on the forum has to be some silly European thing, so I pointed that out.

I would like to be a member!
I've been a Civ III pessimist since way back when Civ III was announced, and later when The List was started. For me it was all the "Sid is God, and can do no wrong" attitude that pulled me to the pessimist side.

One More Turn! posted a great question that ALL our members should keep in mind:
Quote:
|
Do I have to be pessimistic all of the time or is it ok to get excited and positive for a time when we do get some new information on the game? I am not sure that I can be completely grouchy about something that is supposed to entertain me.
|
My answer:
Of course we should all be happy about the good stuff! In fact, to ignore the good stuff would run counter to our club's vision, which is to HELP Civ 3's development. So when we see good stuff, we should offer genuine praise and positive feedback.
Please all remember ultimately we want GOOD results and should be openly happy when we see them since there's a chance we helped get them!

Just thought our guys should know what Cyber's Club posts as somehow different from us. Am I wrong in my replies in any way?
Quote:

If you join this club we can fight together against:
- unbased pessimists
- blind optimists
- civ3 failures
- anti-civ hypes
|
None of our pessimism is or will be "unbased." Stuff like having NO information posted for weeks on end is quite real, you know, and should be mentioned in public.
Of course, we have no blind optimists.
"Civ3 failures"? I guess he means my 'review'? Most people understand it was meant to be constructive.
And of course, we won't condone anti-civ hype since we WANT Civ 3 to succeed!
Quote:
|
But more important is what we stand for:
- Public applause if Firaxis reveales good information about civ3
- Constructive critisism in case we're not sure if something is good or not.
- Healthy contact with Firaxis in a polite human way
- civilization III
|
Umm, we already publically stated those same things. In other words, there IS no difference between us already, I hate to say.

So far your club hasn't stated any official public statement, thus I can't argue you on this right now.
If I look back to the past of the club's president I'm holding my breath about next to come unbased pessimism.
But if you're right and no pessimism will come out of your mouth I'm sure we can concider that to be a victory to the realistic club, and be happy that we have influenced your club in a positive way !

My Statement about the Club
Here's the reasons that I joined the club:
-I am concerned over the development of two major titles at once, both being led by Sid(thus divideing his time between the two games).
- I think that the Civ series should continue to be the standard for TBS games. The lack of real evolution in the Civ3 concerns me on this. If things go as planned for the MOO3 team we may be calling Civ3 "MOO on earth".
- I was really hoping that Friaxis whould listen to some of the great ideas in the list, and take most of them to create revolutionary TBS game(instead of a minor one). since Civ3 is going to be a evolution in the series, i am disappinted)
-The lack of any news abour Civ3 for awhile(at least any intersting ones), instead most of the news has been about SimGolf.
- The screenshots with the ugly terrain. I hope that it is alpha graphics that we are seeing.
- My worst fear is that Civ3 will turn out to be SMAC all over again.
That's why I joined the club, since yin26 has been one of the leading critics about Civ3 and I belive that we are being short shafted by Fraixis. and I think that this is the feeling of alot of Civers on the board.

We should all set up a time to go to the next simgolf chat that Sid is in and start spamming tons of civ3 questions. Maybe one of the moderators will say something to Sid about all his civ3 fans who got ignored Maybe it would go to show him which game is more important. Simgolf? Who cares?

I joined because I want to be excited about Civ3. That's my primary reason for lurking around here at Apolyton. As I stated in another thread however, the lack of information about Civ3 is starting to make me nervous. I am hoping that by discussing this, we can entice Firaxis into a more open dialogue. I will be very happy if the Civ3 web site goes up and blows me away with its content, but am not counting on it.

I know I may have already joined the pessimist club but I'm not really sure if I'm a 100% pessimist. I know I'm not a realist nor am I an optimist. The only reason why I joined this club is because I liked Yin's vistion statement. I don't feel that the vision statement is very pessimistic, though. I'm not really sure what it is but I know that's what I am. I think it might be a combination of many things. I don't mean to sound unloyal, I'm trying to show some honesty. What would I really qualify under? I do happen to like this club except for the fact that a pessimist is a person who expects the worst. I don't expect the worse, I only like to state the worst that could happen. I don't really think the worst will happen but to prevent any chance of the worst happening I show my fears. This is something I completely showed in the previous colonies thread. What I'm getting at is that I don't think I'm a pessimst, a realist, or an optimist. I think I might just be well I don't know. What do you think?
