Scenarios: Fantastic Worlds
I have now played 3 'Fantastic Worlds' scenarios, namely Midgard, Samurai and X-Com. This thread is meant to be the place where to give and discuss the results obtained in that field by any scenario addict willing to do so.
1) Midgard
I chose to be elf (22, hello Ribannah!) and had fun in the early game. But I disliked very much the endgame (numerous small cities hidden in the black, ). I stopped in 3205 YED with 2 Merfolk cities left to discover.
2) Samurai
I chose to be Minamoto and bribed the last white 'Fujawari' city (named Tamba) in 1693.
Fun all the way: you start with 2 tiny cities and your neighbours are very aggressive and much stronger than you are, struggle for life, really. Then they build huge walled cities, up to size 22 (hello, Ribannah) or so. Then the Europeans and newbuilt cities in continental asia come into the picture (I wont tell the details, so as not to spoil the pleasure of those willing to have a try).
FUN. Have a try!
3) X-Com
Aliens destroyed in march 2013. Hard fighting all the way. I have already given details in the thread named 'Napoléon...'.
I loved it (but perhaps I'm not completely objective, since UFO was THE game that made me love computer strategy gaming).
Anyway those Etherians and Muttons are worth being met IMO.
Try and tell me.

I think that should be mutons (mutton is meat from a sheep ). I, too, have fond memories of XCOM. So many scenarios, so little time...

Just to let you in on the joke, elf is the dutch word for 11. Tweeentwintig (sorry, no trema in my font) is 22, the plural of elf. Don't you love cryptic foreign language puns?
Anyway, I suspect I will like Samurai. When I'll play remains to be seen.

mutons and 22
Dave
Thank you (BTW you, and anyone else noticing, are welcome to correct any mistakes I might make when posting on this forum).
Unfortunately my version of UCC is all french (very bad translation !) and I wrote mut(t)ons from very ancient memories, when I started playing UFO (1996).
Marquis
Ribannah is the one who started the joke on another thread a few weeks ago (about the plural of elf, you know, those who live close to Enroth). That is why I found it nice to say hello today.
(in fact, I don't speak Dutch fluently, but that joke was perfectly understandable in German).

Dinosaurs is good for it's unconvential-ness, but it is seriously imbalanced.
The tech chart allows you to get communism very early and the AI maxes out of food in their cities very quickly - this one could be a lot better, but is still fun in a Jurassic Park kind of way.

You can get huge production quickly. Don't play with restarts on if you want to get a good time. I ended up killing about 20 civs and having dino's stationed by each patch of grass before new civs stopped popping up.

The Andy-Man
Don't be upset. I think I can be considered a vet among civ players, but I am a complete greenie in the field of down- and uploading, zipping and unzipping.
I haven't even zipped ONE folder in my life, ( but I shall learn ).
In the meantime, I am quite sure that there are dozens of people posting on this forum who are able to zip it for you.
(La Fayette, wondering how to zip a folder)

Andy-Man, if La Fayette is unable to upload the files, I'll do it tonight. I have Atlantis on my hard drive.
(La Fayette trying to figure out all the confusing buttons and menus and popups)

newworld
1925: last foreign city conquered by the mighty Iroquois.
My friends, that one was tough.
Was I unlucky with my choice of civ? (I felt compelled to choose the Iroquois, remembering Jack London and James Oliver Curwood).
Did I make silly mistakes without noticing it?
Anyway, I started on quite rough terrain and 2 civs grew much faster than I did (the Chinook had more than 10 cities over size 20 producing vast amounts of shields with a tremendous amount of pollution, but the AI doesn't care for pollution).
Fierce battles (well over 1000 losses all in all), then the Maya, who had Riflemen, managed to get howitzers = third strong civ against me.
Raz, you don't like to bribe and love to fight, you said: try this one!

I tend to play the humans in the midgard scenairo... I also liked the atlantis one, all 3 of the historically important civ can be fun.
I extremely dislike the Jules Verne music theme, but the scenario is fun, so is the samurai one... I hate the x-com scenario... the dinosaurs one is overcharged with stuff

I have tried the The MooJr scenario (I hope it is from the FW originally, I play MGE): democracy from the beginning, no switching gov, Terran with food 12, most of squares (Space) that must be roaded for a trade. It is a very instructive way how to find out what the democracy and WLTxD is.
Unfortunately there is no government fall after two turns of a riot. Too easy - you can home all conquesting units in one city. I play as if the government would fall, I keep disorder one turn only.
The game should allow anarchy if there is no government switch allowed in scenarios.
Are tech trees for scenarios somewhere? (I had to build my own, a half at least).

waltzing Mathilda has seized the crown
I chose Waltzing Mathilda because she owns several cities in Normandy in the early game. She landed on AC in April 1161 .
Game played at deity level , without caravan rehoming, as usual, and it was real fun because the main opponent, the 'de Blois' family, is very powerful indeed.
