A little help for newbies.
The first thing you have to do...
Build a HCP in your TMV so that your QGD dosnt go HJE.
And if all hell brakes loose with your SAK, make sure all your BVC are not HKI, or the HPR might infect your RVR.
What the f**k are you ppl talking about?!?
Have played this game for a pretty long time but some of all those "HPO", "WQL" and "EGD" **** dosnt ring a bell for me.
Well, well... Its hard not to be "3L33T".
I just feel sorry for those who dosnt know ANY of all those...
How are they supposed to learn from us on the forum?
Yea I know, im a nagging b**ch.

And a Swede as well...
We're just trying to confuse the Enemy and, frankly, those CtP players deserve all the anguish they get.
If we loose some dedicated SMAC/X players along the road, well, we all have to make sacrifices.

Oh, and welcome to the boards.
If you post something in the off-topic section, you'll learn yet another abbreviation.

And remember that your EG is quite PB'd if you don't have at least two of the following; WP, HGP or the CN and can't PopB at the mid-game. Not to mention that SP's like CBA, TCF, HSA and CV are totally OW especially when doing MP by PBEM...
You'll get the hang of it in less then a month.

What is the deal with Internet forums and abbreviations? Between HGP, HSE, MMI, PB, PBoom, CV, and FJBFHMGR, I'm surprised anyone knows what anyone else is saying!
TGIF!

Exactly Mr. P, it's as we're all MMI equipped.
Not to be too serious, but the abbreviations are usually referred to in Capital Letters and full words somewhere in the the thread. If you're really having a hard time, try going back up the thread for their full extension. The toughest ones to get at first I think are SP (special project) and GA (Golden Age). After that it's all AFK.

Usually, the abbreviations stand for either a secret project or a technology. Thus:
HGP = Human Genome Project
WP = Weather Paradigm
VW = Virtual World
DAP = Doctrine: Air Power
MMI = Mind-Machine Interface
etc = etcetera
Some other common abbreviations are:
SP = Secret Project or Single Player
MP = Multi-Player
PBEM = play by email
PB = Planet Buster

The "Chironian Guild" has a pretty good list of most of the smac abbreviations. It's in the "database" section:
