The Persians and a new king.
I wanna make my 1000 post in the place I started.
Today in school I was bored(as usual) and thought about civ.
I tried to remember who are the light-blue civs,
I remembered the Americans and the Chinese but I couldnt find the third one!
So I came back home, and checked and "discovered" that these are the Persians(Duh!).
Is it only me or the Persians are "playing" only rarely and that is why I couldnt remember them?
yay!!! i'm king!
need to update the sig.

That was another post in my long journey to KING.

I thought someone SMART replied...
Seriously though, it can be because they are "civilized rational perfectionist"(IIRC) and that is why they are always knocked out in the beginning.

It seems like the light blue civ is always Americans. I've never seen Persians in any game.

Which of the blue civs, Americans, Chinese or Persians, you get is very much a random process I think. I've got each of them when playing in a game with 7 AI civs.

I have to agree with both the posts above - although I have certainly seen all the (light blue) civs it does seem that the Americans appear somewhat more frequently than they should - I have a slightly xenophobic theory that the Americans have a number of minor inbuilt (game) biases in their favour - comments anyone?

Well, my sampling may be skewed, since I tend to play as the Persians alot (I live in Turkey which, since there's no Byzantine or Ottoman Empire in Civ, is best represented by Persia), but when I play as a non-light-blue civ I see the Persians, the Chinese, and the Americans about equally. What is weird, though, is that I hardly ever see Mao or Xerxes; both the Chinese and the Persians always seem to be led by a woman, though I see Abe and Eleanor equally when the Americans are involved. Go figure.

Hey, Rufus T, I always get male leaders - which, had I thought about it I would have assumed to be because I routinely (and boreingly) select to be a male player.
Do you get female leaders when you have adopted a male persona?
By the way, you might check out the "Where are we?" thread in the community forum. I think Turkey would add a new country to the list.
My (soon to be ex) wife and daughter love taking holidays in Turkey. Last few years they've gone two or three times a year. Dalyan seems to be their favourite spot.

i always get the female russian leader when i play a male persona. I too think that some of the civs appear based on who you pick more often than not. However, the only light blue civ that is of any signigficance is the Chinese, who with only a few cities can become highly literate very quickly. The Americans are weak weak weak and the Persians too are not much of a threat, especially since they seem to start with such crap land

I trade off male and female leaders just to see who comes in on the opposition. Some of the civs seem to respond to that choice. For example if I'm male and the Egyptians are in, Cleopatra is invariably their leader. Not so when my leader is female -- a mix for the Egyptians in that case. If my character is female Stalin and Mao are the leaders if China and Russia appear. I'm pretty certain that's without fail. I think the three light blues appear about equally -- maybe the Persians less often than the other two.

East Street Trader - Thanks for the tip on the thread; I just added Turkey.
East Street Trader and Mechantile - I tend to play as a male, largely (and this is kinda geeky, I know ) because I like to play as specific historical figures: Cyrus II or Darius of the Persians (both way more significant empire-builders that Xerxes), Claudius of the Romans ("I, Claudius" made a big impression when I was 15), Ethelred of the English (just because "the Unready" is one of my two favorite epithets for a monarch; the other is Basil the Bulgar Slayer, of the Byzantine Empire), James K. Polk of the Americans (Polk, a largely forgotten one-term president, did more to consolidate the American continental empire than anyone else). That being said/confessed, I've noticed that some AI civs always seem to have a female leader (Persians, Chinese, Russians, Vikings) while others go back and forth and no one always gives me a male leader (except, now that I think about it, I can't actually recal a female leader of the Japanese or the Carthaginians). I'm definitely going to start paying more attention to this.

IIRC the sex of an AI's leader is determined by one of the flags in the Rules.txt file! quote:
;
; Leaders
;
; leader, female, color, style, plural, adjective, ...
; ...attack, expand, civilize, ...
; ...govt, male, female...[repeat]
;
; female: 0 = male 1 = female
;
; color: Color set (1 - 7)
; style: City style (0 - 3)
; 0 = Bronze Age
; 1 = Classical
; 2 = Far East
; 3 = Medieval
;
; attack: 1 = aggressive -1 = rational
; expand: 1 = expansionist -1 = perfectionist
; civilize: 1 = civilized -1 = militaristic
;
; govt = government type for name replacement (0 = Anarchy, 6 = Democracy)
;
; male, female = titles for leader of government
;
|
although I must admit that the line I am quoting already contains one error (only giving one leader not (as it should be) leader(m) leader(f) female etc,,, So this may simply be another one of Civ's famous glitches...

So, if I go into Rules.txt (which will be a departure for me) I can change a flag somewhere and get some female leader opponents?
Have to try it.
