How can I miss?

Well, my capital city has three whales, plus a mountain or two. The year is 2850 BC, SP, (as usual) 5 civs, wandering bands.

Not to mention that, but most of the huts I've knocked over have contained friendly bands of mercenaries. One was a dead village, one brought me the tech I was just researching, and one brought me 50 gold.

Can I mess this up?

Well, if it don't work right, I'll blame it on the fact I've got a cold, which is playing hob with my brain.

Second city goes down.

Hut units off exploring.

"Barbarians land near Jimsville. Citizens are alarmed."

Run away, run away tactic fails.

Thousands of years later the archaeologists find ...

What is a "dead" village? I always get something from villages, even if it's red "nasties."

I think it's the barbarian activity level, not the game difficulty level, that's important. On Raging Hordes, no hut is ever empty.

LOL!

And why can't I click the mouse, the keyboard, do something to exit this scene? I know I lost. The computer knows I lost. Let's just get on with it! But, nooooo, I have to watch the goofy searching flashlight until it tells the world... I'm dead!!!

I beg to differ with this- I'm currently playing a game with raging hordes and I have gotten several "weed covered" villages already .

While I prefer mountains outside of the city perimeter, I'll take one, maybe two, inside if there're plenty of specials along with them. Nothing beats a fortress on a mountain. Love 'em.

One of the things I've discovered is that every hill or mountain, when mined, is worth three shields(three shields and a grain if it's a hill). So while you can eventually build up quite a population in a city containing only prairie/grassland/swamp squares, you can do a lot more building of important things if you have a hill or two to mine.

My take on the situation, anyway.

Interesting.

I always play with raging hordes and am another who has never experienced an empty hut.

Maybe it's a different version or pc/mac thing. I play 2.42 on pc.

kcbob - yep, been there, done that. Escape, exit, F1 - nothing short of switching off the computer stops the damn thing.

And I'm not about to switch the computer off, cause [bold]next[/bold] time ...

By the way, Jim W, you mention the mountains as tho' they are a plus feature. Can't say I seek out mountain squares for my capital's home turf. Is it that you consider the tactical defensive opportunities outweigh the loss of productive squares?

I would almost swear that I've gotten weed-overgrown villages from raging-hordes huts. But since I used to play less barbaric games, I may be confused by memories of those games. Anybody know for sure? William Keenan?

ROTFLMAO

I am proud to say that I haven't seen that for a while. That is, not including the phalanx game.

Drake, I agree. I just got a weeds grow in empty ruins hut on RH too

In my version (MGE 1.3) mined mountains only give two shields (one initially and one extra when mined).

Naughty, naughty! You actually got away from the weed-covered villages and back to the original point of the post! ( )

Now, I could be wrong, but it seems to me that the mountain gives three shields.

I'm using MGE, but right now I can't seem to find anything that will admit to any particular version. It sseems to me that when I found this info before, it was something like 2.42.

Mined mountain yields 3 shields with a railroad, 2 otherwise.

Finished off the game yesterday. With all the initial advantages, I'd have thought I'd improve my score. However, I posted the lowest score on my Hall of Fame.

I think it was because I messed up a few things, which slowed me down.

Or maybe I took it a little too casually, because of the good start.
