Something to LOL about 2
Another proof of ai stupidity...
I gave the AI a starting site of four whales, 1 extra ocean, 16 river squares, and the terrain was a mix of grassland and hills. No huts were in the area, and it looked like this. This might not work though...
H = river hill
G = river grassland
W = whale
O = ocean
O O O O O O O
O O W G H O O
O H O H G W O
O H G H G H O
O W H G H G O
O O H G W O O
O O O O O O O
I started the AI on the hill in the middle.
I revealed map in 395O. The AI had moved one space to the right.

All right, it wasn't perfect, but you get the idea.

of course the AI won't build on a hill... i haven't seen one do that yet. I'm not saying they won't do it, i'm sure SOMEONE out there has seen it... I never call a bluff to things like this anymore, I always get proved wrong
But anyways... If you had given them plains/grassland, they surely would have built there (hopefully).

Yeah... I'm sure somebody will claim that they have seen the AI build on a hill... But I've never seen it!

if you watch a game and skip your turns you will see the ai i am sure 99.99% of the time move if it starts on a hill or forest. My understanding is that the ai will only build its capital on grass or plains and nothing else. Of course i am not willing to bet money on this just as one of the two posters above stated as well.

the scary thing is I used to beleive the ai was right about this, and I used to always build on plains or grass . hill locations are nice in some cases. you just don't have good initial trade.

it's been my experience, regardless of hill or not, the AI always moves one square off what would appear to a human to be the best site for maximizing specials.
i've seen this time and again after conquering AI cities. its always one square off where i would have built the city.

In random starts, our own settlers usually start one off of the dead center of a potential four special location too. May be a game logic (read: programming) "feature." [A "feature" is any glitch that can be rationalized.]
