Does placing a unit "On alert" work?
Greetings All,

I've just recently found this action on the right-click menu and looked up the description in the manual. Seems like this could come in handy in some circumstances (e.g., probe team comes next to your base and you attack it before it can do anything).

So I went into the scenario editor and tried setting up units to see exactly how this works, but either I'm doing something wrong or there's a bug. I've tried many combinations of units and the unit that is "On alert" just doesn't automatically attack things that come near it.

As I write this I realize that I didn't test placing units in a base "On alert", only units in the open. Does this matter?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Forever learning,
Jeff

I've not noticed there being a difference between being in base or in the field when using the Alert attack mode. Check the recent threads for this subject -- there was a rather lengthy one dealing with the pro's and con's of Alert. Good especially against native life for the 3:2 attack advantage.

Might it be that only probes Alert-ly attack other probes?

Thanks, Earwicker! I did scan through the posts looking for this info, but it was at 2:00am and I missed it. I see it now and it has all the info I needed.

Thanks again!
