Fiera über alles!
The time has come, I'm leaving again tomorrow... this time to Deutschland, until the 26th of July.
But first, I promised some pics from London, and here they are. I think I'm the first "Spanish Civ2 poster" rto make a public photographical appearance. Feel free to make witty comments.
This is me, at the London Bridge, in front of the Tower Bridge.

Thank you, guys! I'm glad you like her, and glad that you don't know her in real life! The less competition, the better! Ah, y espero que esta vez no borres la foto, Martín, ya no te daré más...
Bernd,
danke schön! Ich bin schon in Göttingen. This is beginning to be like my second home! Perhaps we could meet some day and have a few beers, if you have time...
Jay Bee,
yes, 26th August is what I meant. But I'll be able to browse the forums often, so my stay will féel shorter this way.
NubeOscura,
girlfriend = novia (at least in my case ).

You're not going to Erlangen or Nuremberg, do you? In case this is so, tell me when and where
I wish I had a girlfriend like that...

I can catch a train and just go there... Nuremberg is one of those interesting places I still have to visit in Germany, so I wouldn't mind going there. I'm not sure where Erlangen is, but I'll look up for it.
I'm only free on the weekend, any weekend of August should do fine...

Erlangen is slightly north of Nuremberg, but it's not nearly as interesting as Nuremberg (I know it better though), so if you're not interested in Germany's largest zoo then go to Nuremberg. If you're interested in meeting me there, that's no problem, I always have time for I have holidays now.

I haven't any fixed plans yet. I think you live in Berlin, don't you? I can go there, sure. Also, Í'd like to visit Kassel and Dresden, but would be going to anywhere else you suggested.
Perhaps you'd like to come to Nuremberg so we can arrange a meeting along with Stefan (and maybe other German Apolytoners too...)

Hey guys, I think you must advertise your plans in the off topic section. That way people will see that not only the members of the Brit Brat Pack gather together
BTW, What does 'über alles' mean? I must have seen it hundreds of times .

"Sobre todo", "sobre todas las cosas", también "por encima de todas las cosas".
"Deutschland über alles" es una vieja canción patriótica alemana... o quizá sea el propio himno alemán?

Of course. The prepositions are very similar (in/in, auf/of, unter/under...), and some nouns too.

Now that we are at it, I always thought that the GDR anthem was beautiful.

Deutschland, Deutschland über alles is the beginning of the first verse of the Deutschlandlied, of which the third verse is Germany's present national anthem. After 1922 the first verse was used as the national anthem until 1945/49 when it was replaced by the third verse due to heavy misuse by the nazis. I personally think we should've introduced the former DDR-national anthem Auferstanden aus Ruinen when we had the chance to in 1990. Now we're still stickin' around with this old song of old ideals and antiquated views. The first verse in English would go something like this:
Germany, Germany above everything, above everything in the world
When it brotherly holds together
From the Maas (river in Holland) to the Memel (River in Lithunia)
From the Etsch (Adige, Italy) to the Belt (Denmark)
Germany, Germany, etc.
The thrid verse isn't much better, I think:
Unity and right and freedom for the German fatherland
Let us strive towards this, brotherly with heart and hand
Unity, and right and freedom are the pawn of luck
Flourish in the shine of this luck, flourish German fatherland
I never sing this, and fortunately, I never had to. This song is a hundred and fifty years old, goddamnit, we oughta get something that represents our real ideas in these days.

So true, but the GDR anthem wins hands down. Stefan seems to agree with me too.
Can you believe there is foreign people who actually place the Spanish anthem among the top three ever?
