I not seen you on Fri/Sat nights?

finbar is in all our best games though...

And I prefer diplos. You like small map wargames and simul. We like a lot of diferent settings.

But since you so nice and religious, I'll play

Just for the record, I am in that game and Smartfart was kicking our butts. But some of the players wanted simul from the start and Sf was opposed to playing simul so he quit when we switched. If you ask me, Zylka and Markus muscled us into switching to sim. I prefer turn-based because I like to take care of other things while people are moving, but I was unaware that SF just cannot stand simul and would refuse to play if we went to simul or I would have opposed the switch too...

War is wrong, again:)
How does this prove anything?

That Huge Game was proposed to go to simul BECAUSE SmartFart is a snail, like moi!

The fact that he refused to play in simul is another issue.... the issue here is SLOWNESS.... in case you forgot.....

Sorry War baby but I have icq messages from key players to prove it

BTW, I think it's better to play a proper game rather than being paranoid about being labelled as a slowbie. You said you were worried if people thougt you were slow and in that 'Weaknesses thread' you said you rushed your turns so you wouldn't be seen as slow.

Incidentally, you Canadian galah, in that game we last played(never finished) it was suspected that you were the last to hit return, because I know for a fact I was consistently waiting after I hit return and Markus said it was you, most likely

LOL

Deity i am faster than most players save markus.... my turns take less than 1 min in the mid game even with caravans

i am going by what smart told me...... and i take his word for it... like berz said.... markus and zylka muscled simul into the game....

as for whether or not i am paranoid..yes i am which is why it couldnt' be me who was slow.... i rush turns faster than almost anyone i have ever played....i know the value of fast paced games

not that a slow game is wrong...for dip games and such i would agree... but for most others..its really just point click look hit enter...unless you have no clue what your doing

we all know you can play Deity....everyone just wonders why it takes you longer than eveyone else to do the same thing

cheers....

Thats a LAME excuse diety. I checked using netstat and your connection is faster then any of the other players... And most people don't even need to use that to prove it. All you have to do is look at how fast your caravans and units move by my cities. It would seem to me you have one of the fastest connections. You can use the "lag" excuse on others but it just doest hold water with me... I can't possibly imagine what your doing, you have a 3'rd of the cities and units i do and you take 5 times longer then me to move. it makes no sence at all.

Well, I don't know either!
What can I say?

I'm on a 56k connection in the Australian bush - usually connects at 46k.

Maybe my units move at a fair speed at the hosts end because of the way the data is packaged?

I'm not deliberately slowing things down and I do very little microi-ing during my turn, EXCEPT as I said during revolts etc.

I think you guys are being unfair.

In some games it takes a minute for a city to be built.
Lag is a very variable thing.

I dunno...

I agree with Deity
LAg can seem to coem and go . At times I have had units Freeze on me and thought the game had frozen, only to suddenly find the unit flashes again and i cna continue moving. The city build tihng is another delayer. As deity says cna take 45 sec upto over a minute to get to city name display let alone into the city display.
Of course the other delay can be king chat, i usually ignore all king chat during my turn, but this cna lead to some confusiuon and make you miss the imprtant messages such as " Move that unit or its war"

did Hydey say something!!
The biggest problem with king chat is when you post anonyously and then forget to turn anon off, sort of gives the previous anon away..

Regarding the huge game, smart was not really kicking everybody's butt. He was just building a lot of cities, and this is not always the best strategy.
I was also pusihing for simul because a 7 player is just too slow for turn based. Beside nobody was fighting. 10-15 min/ turns in the early part of the game won't get you very far. Everybody would have quit after another of those slow session.

I love the way this slow play problem has internationalised
You all seem to be ignoring my point about Deity's local connection

I have seen messages take ages to get to him on icq. The only way you would get an idea of his lag problems would be to sit at his machine.

So give it a rest with the Deity bashing

He's a highly esteemed person and player

But slow as buggery

what does ICQ have to do with playing civ? Thats like comparing apples and oranges. Its plain and simple if hes units are zipping by and he is still taking 10 minutes to move when it takes others 10 seconds there is something wrong. You shouldn't micro every single city every time you send a caravan out.

Look on the bright side, D. You're outpolling Hydey 9 to 1. When I work out a way to vote twice, it will be 10 to 1.
