MOO3 section
I have seen quite a bit of discussion of Masters of Orion 3 on the forums (in Other Games, OT, and Civ III General/Suggestions). I think that it's too early for me to ask about having a MOO3 forum added (it's too late to make a list, and besides, the Quicksilver website already has a development forum), but I was wondering if it would be possible/appropriate to set up a MOO3 section on Apolyton (with perhaps nothing more than a link to http://moo3.quicksilver.com).

Sounds like a good idea
-we will possibly need new moderators for the section, however

We've suggested it before- MarkG wasn't keen on the idea last time.
Personally I think it would be a great move. I think MOO3 is going to be a great game- even a match for Civ3.

If we are talking new game additions I would suggest a "civ evolution" forum

I think I brought it up last time. I would love to have a MoO3 site. In my house Moo2 has had much more reinstalls than Civ2 ever did.
I would volunteer my help in runing a MoO3 section.
Although I am already dissapointed by the removal of completely cusum races.

Why not? MOO3 will be more of a Civ game than Sid Meier's Golf would have been, but the issue was raised about Golf getting a spot on Apolyton.
Did MarkG give a reason for being down on the idea?

While MarkG wasn't keen on the idea in the past...
If there is enough interest, maybe he would consider it. They did add a EU forum when enough people talked about it.
I'm almost looking forward to MOO3 as much as CivIII.
MOO2 was one of my favorite games. I liked it far better than SMAC Hmmmm... maybe I can moderate the forum

No... a protest or spamming will not get the job done. If enough people comment on what a great idea it might be, and show the admin that such a forum is in the best of the community, and will actually be used, you stand a better a chance of getting what you want

Really not keen on MoO 3. Too much hype. That's why you're all going to be disappointed when it actually comes out.

Sorry, typo.
I meant to say:
Should we hold a protest AGAINST Ming?
Anyway like I said, even if it means being nice to Ming I volunteer my services.

Hey, Mark, why the change? When we brought it up a while back, you were dead set against it?
Just curious...

I never played MOO1&2 but I'm very interested in MOO3. This is going to be my second favorite, after CivIII.

In my opinion, all that a MOO3 section would require at the moment is a link to the Quicksilver site. Development discussion at Quicksilver is perused regularly by the game developers, so it would be silly to have development discussion on Apolyton where it would be ignored. Just a simple link would still be helpful in letting Apolytoners know that MOO3 exists (or will exist).
Once the game is on the shelves then it might be a good idea to set up a MOO3 forum, since the Quicksilver forum might be taken down or at least be left to turn malignant once the developers leave it. That might even pull some people from the Quicksilver forum to Apolyton when the time comes. But until then, I don't see an Apolyton MOO3 section as being a very high-maintenance task.

By that same token, why not simply replace the Civ forums with links to Firaxis?
The history, particularly that surrounding SMAC, should indicate why that's not such a great idea. Apolyton's role, like that of other independents such as ACOL, is to provide feedback free from the corporate shackles. Besides, it'll help expand Apolyton into new areas.
If it weren't for the fact that I've got minor distractions like a job and a family I'd definitely volunteer to assist a MOO3 section. Sadly, that's just not realistic as I can't devote the sort of time necessary to do the job justice. I'd strongly encourage the more dedicated fans to take a role, however.

A good point, but Firaxis also knows/cares about the Apolyton CivIII forum to some extent. The same might not hold true of the Quicksilver team.

I suppose it would be worth a try regardless of whether Quicksilver cares or not. It's just that my initial thought was that there's no time or place for a MOO3 list, and the list was the only reason I posted on the Civ III forum in the first place...

I'm interested in a MOO3 section. I'd rather keep my posting to one bulletin board then have to check over Quiksilver's as well.

MoO is definitely better than the sequel though.
Just curious, why would Apolyton cover MoO 3 alone when there are tons of other space 4x games out there? Wouldn't it be better if the forum is for that particular genre of computer games?

Because MoO/MoO2 are right up there with Civ/Civ2, so I wouldn't doubt it if MoO3 and Civ3 should be on the same site.
Perhaps Apolyton should expand to "Classic Strategy Gaming" instead of just Civ.

The only other space game that compares with MoO is STARS!.
I could understand a combined forum for MoO3 and STARS!:SUPERNOVA, but there is nothing else out there worth it.

I would be honoured to do some work for the MOOx forum. MOO2 was the game I played the most.
MOO2 had the best user interface so far and was more addictive than Civ and it's clones (needless to say Alpha Centauri). It's "lighter" than Civ and the "flow" of the game was better because the micromanagement was easier to control.
And no settlers!
