If Civ3 lets you use WinAmp on top of itself, what should be in the Civ3 Playlist?
We need a list of civ-themed music to play during the game!
Suggestions:
Junior Delgado - Ancient Civilisation
The Stooges - Search and Destroy
Bob Dylan - Masters of War
Bad Religion - I want to Conquer the World
Max Romero - War Ina Babylon
Earth Quake - Mr. Security
More!

During the beginning of the game I would play perhaps Grieg's "Morning Mood" and when I went to war with someone I would play Tchaikovsky's "Slavic March" I'm not sure what I would play during other parts of the game. Some other classical music, I think. Rock doesn't seem to fit Civ games.

For Russians I would like to hear:
- Parts of Borodin's "Prince Igor" for ancient or medieval times;
- "March of the Preobrazhenski Regiment" for renaissance;
- "Farewell of Slavianka" or "Rise up, the vast country!" for modern times
And for more peacefull times: for example "Kamarinskaya"

What is the song that the Soviets sing in the Hunt for Red October. It's a great song that would definitely be on my Russian playlist.
I agree with Anatolia that I think that Classical is much better for background music. Rock can be too distracting, but it all depends on your gameplay. I've always liked the idea of civ specific music throughout...
As for Rock...
"It's the end of the world as we know it" REM
"We didn't start the Fire" Elton John

Carl Orff - Carmina Burana - O Fortuna.mp3
but then i have a bunch of my rock mp3s that will overshadow.
a mix of crossbreed / slipknot / korn / godsmack / etc will make it enjoyable.

I agree with that a menegerie of classical music best fits a game like this. Although there are some Rock songs that would enhance the mood though (Bad Religion- I wanna conquer the world!).
I will most likely just stick with the game's offical soundtrack though
