New landing record
Finish my new game and I blasted the old record. I landed in 1075 AD this time.
Big differences vs previous scores. Much better location for science city with 4 trade special. 1 continent: I was able to meet all the Ai quickly and get a lot of tribute.
I have a more detail log file than the other one:

I second Smash's WOW!
More questions:
How many free techs did you start with (Monarchy in -3450??)?
Did you build an overseas city for intercontinental trading, or trade with the AIs?
How many techs from the AIs?

Wow, that's great. And I would also like to know the answers to Dave's and Smash's questions.

arii:
If you could send me the 3950bc file before going on vacation I would be grateful. My e-mail and ICQ are in my profile, and both are good. (Maybe easier to use e-mail, since I dont remember if I already have you on ICQ.) Thanx.

arii - a great accomplishment.
By my calculations, you landed on turn 168. Had you launched a faster SS (say a 5-yr SS) in AD 1100 (2 turns later than your launch), you could have landed in 1105 but on turn 160. (due to the fact that turns change to 1-year increments once the ship is launched).
I therefore propose that all 'earliest landing' records be reported in Turns as well as year. As reference points, in Emperor/Deity, 1000AD = turn 150; 1500 = turn 175; 1750 = turn 200.

Great job! I guess I will just take my crummy old 1720 landing and go home.
PS: Do you have a 4000bc saved file for this game? Mind sharing it?

Genghis Al,
I've never had much luck extorting tribute from AIs on other continents, so small map is a good start. The other key is to have *lots* of military units.
If you've never tried an ICS (infinite cities sleaze) style game, it would be educational to try it. A thumbnail sketch: don't build any improvements in your cities; just settlers, warriors, horsemen, diplos, and boats (if necessary). Once your cities grow to size 2, put the workers on high-shield squares so you can produce a settler ASAP (and so they don't grow into disorder). Keep cities happy with warriors early, Hanging Gardens mid-game, and Statue of Liberty aided early Communism or Fundamentalism in the endgame. Research goals are Monarchy, then Democracy.
You'll rocket to the top of the power graph and stay there. The AIs will be astonishingly cooperative.

WOW
(of course, since it's almost heartbreaking to have a look at your results).
May I ask 3 questions (apart from those asked by Smash and Dave): deity? random map? what size?

If you read his follow up log he states that he lost a city to a sneak attack thus making it not OCC. Also there is no use for HG in OCC.

Don't be surprised arii. It seems to me that you are far ahead (at least ahead of me... and Adam Smith... and many others).
I bow again.

Consider this as a deleted reply.. (why can't I delete my own posts for real?)
Didn't realized that this thread was originated from year 1999.
