I hate this!!
I play Civ2 for more than a year now. I've played Civ1 for aeones. I won a Civ1 game by conquest on emperor 1300BC.

And now I have a roommate who started playing Civ2 about a month ago and he beat me twice in a row. To be exact, I gave up, both times BC, cause I was so
In the first game he had 10 cities when I had 3, though I only built settlers ! In the second game he held all of asia and destroyed two Civs, while my greeks had 4 cities. He then arrived with 3 chariots right at Byzanz, so I gave up.

I got mad like a 5 years old and said things I shouldn't have...

Anyone else such a bad loser?

yes, i often lose by similar numbers

lost to eyes of night 15-20 cities to 3
and i don't even know how badly in a few mp games with rah, ming, bird, mercantile, etc... (it was a lot)
in a zone game i allied with kaak he ended with 30 cities to my 4...

but i don't mind losing so long as i have fun while doing it

Since I play with a VERY competitive bunch most of the time, it would be impossible to win all the time. But I don't get mad. As long as it is fun, who cares... I play for the entertainment... winning is desirable, but a good time is more important.

I hear ya
I know what you mean. I played Civ2 for months, then got beat twice by my cousin, who had played Civ1 for a while and then Civ2 for a day. I also quit BC, because the situation was so hopeless. I guess practice is what I need, and you as well.

You are probably just too used to playing the ai.Your roommate hasn't had the time to learn what you can get away with against it.

A good example of this is barracks.Normally you don't need these until after Sun's.Against people though, you better have some vets on hand just in case...

Another is tactics,You really don't need any against the ai.Fight that way against a human and you will be saying "@#$%" alot.

tip-don't answer any of his/her questions anymore

Yup
Yeah, I know. I played the ai for months on Chieftain, and got used to building every improvement. Against a real opponent, however, I ran into both money troubles and military troubles.

Few things in life are more frustrating than playing against a naturally-talented novice. All your study, all your practice, all your hard work seem to be for no purpose.

The only thing to do is just admire their intuitive grasp of the subtleties and stay out of their way (while trying to learn a few things).
