50 cities, Laszlo ?! I'm not even sure that Hungary has so many cities. Or did you count the villages, too?
I'm hungarian (though I do not live in Hungary; just near the border) but I hardly could say 50 cities! (well, maybe with a help of a map, I could). Just for my curiosity: did you inlcude in your list also former-hungarian cities ? (you know, cities that are now in Romania or Slovakia or Ukraine).
Anyway, an eastern-european scenario would be interesting. (with turks, greeks, bulgarians, serbs, romanians, hungarians, austrians, russians and maybe more)

Tiberius, well, we did use an encyclopedia to find all the city names. They were listed alphabetically, but we reordered them by population size. And though the size got pretty small near the end, we needed at least 50 city names to accomodate our expansionist strategies. I also implanted my name (appropriately I think) as the default male ruler of the Hungarian civ in the rules.txt
And about your curiosity, I am second-generation Hungarian and don't know much of it's history. I'm afraid that no former Hungarian cities will be listed because the encyclopedia only had the then-current 1990 listing. My dad might have been able to help me make it more inclusive, but he does not share our interest in the game.
If you have the time, would you mind revising the attached file to include a more historical perspective? Feel free to keep the listing either way. Enjoy!
Laszlo

Thanks Laszlo for the list, I will study it at home and answer you tomorrow (I'm at work right now). I will try to add more cities, too.
Btw, Laszlo is your first or last name? (sound like a first name; are you perhaps Laci?)
Sorry for beeing off topic, but I rarely find a hungarian in the Civ3 forums.

Well, to begin with, you will have to rework it to include those cities that are not in Hungary today. Major hungarian cities like Pozsony (now "Bratislava"), Temesvár (now "Timisoara"), or Bestercsebánya (Now "Banska Bystika" or something), need to be included. Also, hstorical cities of importance within hungary's borders, most notably former capital Visegrád, need to be included. Other minor problems: It's "Gödöllö" (well, with accents not dots on the last letter), not "Godollo" (having "o" as a last letter is impossible in Hungarian anyway, it would have to be "ó"), likewise with Györ and Gyöngyös.
Otherwise, looking good! I've not even heard of some of those cities, but I've been in like half of them and can vaguely confirm their city status. Except for that of Salgótarján, which is a large village, basically.

I will relaunch the first customised civ I ever played with, the glorious Empire of Yorkshire (Yorkshireans), run from their capital city of York. Their cities are:
York
Leeds
Sheffield
Hull
Bradford
Harrogate
Huddersfield
Scarborough
Doncaster
Barnsley
Rotherham
Ilkley
Ripon
Beverley
Dewsbury
...and more. I should put in the towns of Cleckheaton and Blubberhouses, just because they have silly names.
I dunno what attributes I would pick for Yorkshire, I am sure I will think of something...

OK, I had a few minutes to look at the list.
First of all, sorry László, I just realized this is your first name (btw, what kind of name is Chandra? Doesn't sound like hungarian)
Anyway, back to the list. Snapcase has right in all what he said (how the hell do you know so much about Hungary?), except that Besztercebánya is now Banska Bystrica. Of course, Visegrád need to be included. I'll include Tokaj, too. Cute little town (well, maybe a large village), but, most importantly, the base of the famous hungarian wine (you could just found it on a top of a "wine hills" tile ). There are more former hungarian cities, of course. If you include just those that are in Romania right now (I live in Temesvár/Timişoara), you'll change drastically the whole text-file, because Temesvár, Kolozsvár and Brassó are all bigger than Debrecen! Also Nagyvárad, Arad, Szatmárnémeti, Marosvásárhely, Nagybánya, all should be in the top 15 hungarian cities! I'll try to find for you some real facts until tomorrow (population, etc).
About the leader's name: in Nagyvárad (now Oradea), my city of birth, there is a statue of László the Saint, one of Hungary's great kings; so don't worry, the László name is appropriate (maybe you could change it to Szent László).

OK, here is the (almost) complete list of actual and former hungarian cities.
I hope these are enough, even for an expansionistic player like Laszlo!

Tibi, Laszlo is my first name, though some people at church call me Laci. And my sister's name is Sanskrit in origin and means "she who outshines the stars".
But back to the list, thank you very much (and Snapcase too) for all the input. I'll replace my old city text with the revised listing right away.

Anyway, how does Snapcase know so much about Hungary. I only know a few words of Hungarian and could not follow your discussion.
PPS - I am also interested in the future, Tiberius.
