Firaxis: Bug I Want Fixed.
hey Firaxxians and Apolytoners
when playing civ2 over the internet (TCP/IP), you could save the game on your computer, as a *.net file.
if u took that file to another computer with civ2 on it, you could open it.
when its open, if u try to cheat, it says that "Other Civs Are Passworded".
so what could you do?
save the game as a *.sav file.
then load up the save, and all the passwords VANISH.
turn on cheat menu, reveal the map, and plan all ure cities / attacks.
thanks for listening.

[steps out of *lurking but trying to avoid too much info* mode]
In the list, one of the sections was "cheats" that people used to get around things that may not have been in the designers intention. this is one of those things. if they've looked at that list, hopefully they've seen this problem, and have already fixed it/prevented it.

My guess is that they have revamped MP enough that this will not even show up as a bug in their design.

Doesn't hurt to remind them, The List isn't exactly a small document. Easy to forget things after the 84 page.

Yes, that is a damn good point. They should change the coding so that even if it is renamed, a game cannot be opened as a single player, put some information within the game itself that bars this from happening...

Fixing online anti-cheating issues is crucial to the game's success. Currently, the biggest threat to online gaming is the use of cheats.
Judging by the state of affairs in FPS games, in which elaborate anti-cheating measures are still being cracked by advanced programs, there is a lot of work to do in this area for the Civ team!

Server based games would go a long way toward solving this problem...

yes, but they are a bit harder to manage, as in find the same people and continue a game.
just look at the zone. i have about 50 unfinished multiplayer games.
i almost never see a cannon in random, anonomyuous multiplayer. forget about nukes.
now i just play with my friends.

I didn't mean server based direct-connect games. I meant server based asynchronous games - where the players connect once or twice a day to take their turns, and then the server runs the game on a schedule. More like PBEM than direct-connection.
