Does CtP 1 still stand on it's own with CtP 2 released?
IMHO, yes. There are many significant differences between the two, with the first one obviously having more of a slant on sci-fi. I also enjoyed the wonders in the first one far better. In spite of CtP 2 being a better game all in all, I think CtP 1 has many unique things to offer.

I have a dream!
One day someone from the CTP2 community or even someone from nowhere will post a thread named:
I can insert the CTP1 space layer to CTP2.
After that day i will spend hours making and editing the units to space. Trying not to make the same unbalances of the CTP1.
Since this day i will never play another game if not CTP2.

The space and undersea layers were the 2 things that first attracted me to c:ctp. I was very disappointed when the space layer was excluded from CtP2.....

Besides that, PBEM capability and a not-so-dumb AI in C:CtP makes it a lot more playable than CtP2.
