Civ3 Limited Edition
I was wondering how much the Civ3 Limited Edition will cost and what will be included with it other than the cool tin box?

I looked at civfanatics.com and ebworld and saw that the price is $15 dollars more expensive, but what is included in it that isn't in the standard edition?

I think it's a making-of cd-rom and a strategy guide.

Meaning the manual is an ' extra'?

Don't fall for this 'limited edition' marketing ploy, it just ain't worth it.

When's the last time you got a quality or detailed manual with a game? They are all just flimsy little 10 page things full of typos nowadays.

Yes the quality of manuals sure has dropped the last few years, either they don have one or they have a small one, and in some rare cases they have lots of info crammed into itty-bitty pages and letters which should obligate them to include a magnifying glass in the box ( baldurs gate 2 anyone? ).
It is time for Firaxis to break this bad trend.

I think that they include the prima strategy guide, as well as the addmitedly cool box art. If you go to www.ebgames.com they have all three for sale. The civ 2 manual was pretty hefty so there's no reason to think the new one would be otherwise...

Yes there is, that was 5 years ago (6?) and nowadays everything is getting smaller.

Except for the price tag... and system requirements.

I think it will be a good sized manual. Civ2 had a big manual, SMAC had a pretty big manual, and the manual for SMACX was a good sized manual for an expansion so I don't see any reason why Civ3 won't have a big manual. Think about it, Civ3 just has so much more than Civ2, it would have to be a big manual.

Why not? The tin box is worth an extra $15 . Who knows what else will be included... and if I get a free Strat Guide, major plus!

Yep, the tin is definately worth an extra $15 And anything else is a bonus.

Of course, if anyone feels its not worth it, just buy the game

They wouldn't be able to fit a Civ2 or SMAC-style manual in the box. New PC games boxes are the size of DVDs.

I guess England might have DVD size boxes, but the USA still uses the big cardboard boxes, so I am expecting a big manual still.

I presumed theUS would have the boxes too. It's nice to be ahead in something

It's good because they don't take up so much room and they match DVD and PS2 games on your shelf

Even old games, expansion packs and mulitgames packs now have the new boxes, they're everywhere now.

If the Civ3 Prima guide is anything like the SMAC Prima guide, don't waste your money. The Prima guide was just a large print photocopy of the regular manual. The only worthwhile addition was the map of planet, which after 3-4 games you probably had memorized anyway. Prima's guides suck. No I shouldn't say that, the guides for games with missions and such are pretty decent, but for open-ended gameplay like Civ, SMAC, type games, the guide book is worthless. I'd probably be more inclined to buy a Limited Edition if it did not include a guide book, as then the extras would have to be interesting.

The Civ2 Strat Guide was pretty good.

And I'd prefer a nice cardboard box with my games, espcially if the manual is large!
