What to do with leftover sheilds?
ok if im building a wonder and i have a large amount of sheilds (lets say 100), then another civ builds the same wonder ahead of me, i have 100 shields leftover, no problem, except theres no large things to build, what can i do with my sheilds? should i just waste them or is there a way i could save them for use later?
i think you should have a either city/nation sheild bank where you can save sheilds and use them later.
is something like this going to be included in civ3 or will i just have to suffer?
or could it be included in an expansion pack..

Shield micromanagement is an important part of the game. I hope Civ3 doesn't reduce the need for it.
In other words, ancient: suffer!

no. sheilds are basically a percentage of what your building.
IMHO you shouldnt even be able to switch and keep shields.
units maybe, but when you change from the statue of liberty to leonardo's workshop, or a bank to a university, it's a little odd.
and you shouldnt be able to save shields.

Well, we know there aren't going to be trade caravans to help construct a wonder, but it would be nice if there were something like a chain-gang unit that you could send from one city to help build something in another so that you would have an option other than completing wonders with cash. I don't think you should be able to switch wonders if you get beat building it but in that case there should be some feasible way to help insure against massive shield loss.
Yeah, I like the chain-gang unit idea

I can just imagine them switching production at the last minute and Leonardo working in the statue's head!

Capitalization in Civ 2 saves shields, but you lose food.

Why the hell wouldn't you want a clickfest? I for one am willing to click through 15 screens if that's what it takes to micromanage my game. Customizing is one of the best features

I think UberKruX doesn't want options just so he has something to moan about later.

If you look closely at the new screenshots you can see some cities are producing "wealth." It seems that a player is allowed to convert excess shields into money early in the game.

I guess in Civ 3 you can then use the money to *buy* the wonder you are building faster than just building in one city.
A unit to help production of a wonder would be fairly useful though...

You could work on Capitalization if you have it. And if you don't change it, the shields will just pile up until you change it to another wonder/spaceship part.
And even if you clicked on the Change button in the city menu, but there are no options available, you can click on Auto, then Cancel to get out of the Change menu (little cheat).
In other words, wait.

ancient: in Civ2, you just keep building the wonder, and switch when a new wonder becomes available. (Although in Civ2, you should be using caravans/freights for most of the building)
Civ3- will this still be available who knows?
BTW
I don't think you get any money for shields already in your build box, when you switch to Capitalization in Civ2.

well, AFAIK, you can send a great leader to a city to form a military academy, or whatever that wonder is that makes leaders.
