Free Download: Colonization for Windows
I stumbled across this site and found some interesting games you all might be interested in. Here is the link to a free download of Colonization for Windows. If you click on the Strategy link on the left-hand menu, you'll also find Civilization for Windows (that's right - the original), and other goodies.
Have fun!

Unfortunately, the underdogs NO LONGER offers Colonization for Windows. That's why I posted this new link. Besides, I have found that many games that I have downloaded from underdogs don't seem to work properly or they are missing files.
At the link I provided, at least the games work when downloaded, and they offer many games that can't be found elsewhere.

I'm very happy for you. . .
However, for those gamers who prefer sharper graphics, a tougher AI, and trouble-free gaming, this Windows version is for them. . .

I've downloaded it and it works fine thanks except...
1. When I try to run setup.exe it comes up with a message about being unable to access a file called install.bin.
2. It won't run any of the music. While with most games I tend to turn off the music after a while as it gets a bit annoying, with Colonization I keep it on because it adds to the whole atmosphere, it is nice gentle soothing music.
On the other hand, it's free, so why should I complain. If anyone has a solution to the above problems though, please let us know.

Russel: The sound should work. Did you unzip the "WinG" file into your directory? This is the file that allows the game to work with Windows.
After unzipping "WinG" into your game directory, then double-click on "Mssetup". Finally, double-click on "Setup".
Hope this works

Well, Mssetup worked, but Setup still had the same error. And still no music.

Russell: sorry for the delay in getting back to you.
I have unpacked the game a second time and the sound works for me, and it should work for everyone else.
I have Win'98, PII 350, SB Live! sound card.
1) I have unpacked the game in following directory:
C:\Colonization for Windows
2) Then, add the "WinG" file to the directory.
3) Then click on "Mssetup". Do not double click "Setup" - the game is already set to play.
4) Do not use a shortcut to your desktop. Click on the "exe" file from within the game directory itself.
Let me know if this works.
