UK release dates (Answer from Firaxis please)
There are several rumours going around several threads, so please Firaxis:
When will Civ3 be released in the UK?
When will the collectors edition be released in the UK?
How much will the Collectors Edition cost in the UK?
Thanks in advance,
Philip
Better not be released past the start of December or else

I'm not going to be shafted up the arse by some US-centric company. I intend to download it when released in the US...and will buy it later when I can be arsed to buy it How difficult can it be to go from the US to the UK; they are the same frigging language!!!

[joke] They need to put a U in every time they write Color [/joke]
But seriously, this is annoying me - to say the least -

And then SB, think of how long it will take to reach Australia and New Zealand. When SMAC was released there was no problem with it being released all over the world simultaneously...why is civ3 any different; why should the rest of the world have to wait?

I agree with Provost.
But I don't think it's likely to be the 28th. Surely Firaxis aren't stupid enough to release it 3 days AFTER christmas.

It would be nice to see the release date moving forward... in it would be normal that the date moves even further into 2002...
we shall see, but it is unfair to have us wait for soooo long... I want the US version!
is there any retailers that would dare to do that? (sell the US version here on the release date)

I've mailed firaxis about it, but I'd be very surprised if I get a reply.
If the game comes out later in europe I will definitely get it from a
warez site.

Why is the anger directed at Firaxis? Infogrames handles the entire release and decides what translation/world-wide policies are used. Yet, based on a bunch of semi-clueless gaming sites, you're whipping up a frenzy against the developer.
How about asking Infogrames on their official UK Forums about what release date policies they usually use? I'll do it tonight if no-one else will...

Once the game goes "gold" in the US it will need to be separately adapted for UK language (if deemed necessary) before it is certified by UK censors and granted a licence. Only then can UK production begin. There are several other minorhoops that need jumping through too. 2 months delay is not good but it is far from the worst delay from localisation issues I've encountered.

Adapted for the UK? Oh come on, this has never been done before, and the differences between US and UK in terms of the English are negligable; it most certainly isn't going to affect understanding of the game whatsoever. And what other reasons? Many, many companies have simultaneous release across the world. There was no difference when SMAC was released, so why should this be any different?

For chrissake, i'll gladly take the version with silly american spelling rather than wait a single extra day! CTP was released in Australia the same day as the US, so i'll be horrified if Civ3 is delayed to make unnecessary changes
BTW, why hasn't Dan or anyone who matters given a response here?

Hear hear. Just download it on warez until it becomes in Europe, if this is the case, CyberShy...

I aggree it's a piese of ****, they could release it on the within a Month. The localisation for US to England in neglable. I find it rediculouse that we have to wait. Given the amount off sites that offer downloaded software the delay can only hurt there sales.

"Provost Harrison" you advocate using illegal warez sites to get access to Civ3...
There is no justification...the fact the product isn't on offer over here until a later date than America (except by shipping it at extra expense) does not justify intellectual theft. You can do without civ3, you can pay that little bit more and you aren't forced to buy the product (go without).
To think you are owed the game is complete bull**** and you are simply an advocate of theft.
