What is Fluff?
This may have been answered before but...
I noticed that one of the screen shots showed the Civ researching "Fluff". I guess that this was probably filler but does anyone know if this is actually something - either a technology built into the game or a custom tech?

If its an actual tech what would it come under, military, economic, applied...?
Its got to be a filler, hasn't it?
Do you have a link to the screenshot.....

Most likely a placeholder tech. The early screenshots have been full of such things. The complete tech tree screenshots on Gamespot didn't have it, so its a safe assumption that it won't be in Civ3.

Maybe it's an early Navel technology.

Poor Rib
Isn't that where Sid is telling you you are researching fluff. I remember that ScreenShot

I don't know if I should laugh or cringe at that pun.

'Fluff' - the tech allows you to build the Postmodernist unit. This unit walks up to cities and reduces research by diverting the finest minds from actual scientific research into deconstuctional lunacy.

Here is the image. The Fluff shows under what is being researched.
Maybe it is needed to make that marshmallow Stuff which can be used to slow down troops?

Are all those cities "domestic"? It seems a particularly multicultural civ that player has. And as you pointed out it is researching fluff. Who is Mr.Clean, or is it supposed to be a joke that I don't get? A reference to pollution or something maybe?
What is going on in this screenshot?!?!?!?!?

It's a placeholder tech. We have the full and complete tech tree from Gamespot (though possibly missing some unit and building icons).
The Mr. Clean comment is part of the humor their putting back into Civ like the newspapers from Civ1
"Fluff" doesn't exist in Civ3.

Look at the population icons, they're the same as in Civ2. Also, even though the units are still ancient technologies, sci-advisor Sid is in modern-scientist garb, which is out of place. The screenshot is old. The graphics are not fully in place and neither is the tech-tree.

It must be a reference joke, cos I don't see the humour and jokes are supposed to be funny. Am being slow here?

I haven't seen the screenshot, but Mr. Clean might only be funny to U.S. citizens of a certain age. He's the personification/mascot of an American household cleaning product (intended for kitchen floors mainly, 'though I'm sure it boasts a number of uses.). He's a bald muscular genie-like guy with an earring. In the TV commercials sparkles flew up wherever it was used; but I can't remember if he magically cleaned people's floors or if his mere association with the product implied that it was magical. I do remember him winking knowingly at the audience.

Was Mr.Clean some Gay Pride activist? He looks like he should be, esp. with that wink.

To get back on topic: I think Fluff is a placeholder for technology.
That is an old screen, and they maybe hadn't got the research working yet.
